How many hours' sleep do you get per night?

Unless I don't sleep well and wake up in the night and don't manage to go back to sleep, I get around nine per night (I get up at 8:00 as I WFH). For years I got six and I was always tired. If I get less than eight I'm positively grumpy. It's a shame because I could get so much more done if I didn't need so much sleep.

How many hours' sleep do you get and is it enough for you?

4/5 hours and not particularly good quality but I’m very rarely tired

hopefulhalf · 12/11/2020 19:51

I'm not sure seems about right. Generally go to bed 9ish asleep by 10, up at 5:30. Later a couple of nights due to stuff like football pratice or church meetings. Lie in at the weekend.

Megan2018 · 12/11/2020 19:53

About 4, 6 on a good night (BF 14 month DD). Pre baby it was 8-9 on a work day.
I need 10 ideally tbh as I have a parasomnia but can function on 5 now.

Purplekitchen · 12/11/2020 19:53

9-10 hours but I'm a very light sleeper and wake up several times during the night.

PickAChew · 12/11/2020 19:53

6-7. Never slept well.

optimisticpessimist01 · 12/11/2020 20:00

Usually 7 and half hours. Get up at 6am for work and I'm in bed by 10, always takes me a while to drift off though- my mind overthinks everything and anything as soon as my head hits the pillow!

SocialBees · 12/11/2020 20:01

Around 7 hours - that seems to be enough.

TonkinLenkicks · 12/11/2020 20:01

Averaging on 4 at the moment. I'm on my knees with DD who is 5 months.

maureenfrombarnsley · 12/11/2020 20:05

6-7 tops. It's not enough!

AmarillobyMorning · 12/11/2020 20:08

8-9, I feel awful with less than 7.

Drogonssmile · 12/11/2020 20:12

About 6-7. Ideally I need 8-9 but my 4 year old likes to wake up between 4.30 and 5 😤

Isabelle99 · 12/11/2020 20:15

About 4-5 hours

Beecham · 12/11/2020 20:36

It's interesting how 8 hours isn't optimal for everyone. I need a bit less, so about 7.5.

8-9hrs is too much for me. And I find that if I have a run of long sleeps, I'll have one night of insomnia, almost as if my body is saying I've had too much.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/11/2020 20:37

7.5 - 8

macshoto · 12/11/2020 20:56

6h25 on average over the last 7 years according to my Sleep Cycle app records.

Has improved from less than 6 hours back in 2013 to slightly more than 7 during lock-down earlier this year.

Often too little on a Sunday night (early start for a weekly commute, pre-Covid). Less on weekdays and more on weekends (also not great).

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 12/11/2020 21:11

8 and it’s not enough. But I think I have sleep apnoea as no matter how much sleep I have I wake up groggy and tired, and my Apple Watch tells me my sleep quality is poor. I am perma tired Sad

PaperMonster · 12/11/2020 21:26

About 8 but function better on 9-10. A lot of broken sleep at the mo due to pain so am often tired and grumpy.

KeepOnKeepingOnKeepingOn · 12/11/2020 21:27

Generally between 8 or 9 hours. But I go to bed early, usually 9 o'clock, and never have problems drifting off. Then up at 6 - always been an early bird

MummaBear4321 · 12/11/2020 21:32

At the minute I am getting 4-5 (I have a newborn). I dont actually feel bad on 4/5. Normally, around 8. I am lucky that my toddler sleeps from 7-7.
