How many hours' sleep do you get per night?

Unless I don't sleep well and wake up in the night and don't manage to go back to sleep, I get around nine per night (I get up at 8:00 as I WFH). For years I got six and I was always tired. If I get less than eight I'm positively grumpy. It's a shame because I could get so much more done if I didn't need so much sleep.

How many hours' sleep do you get and is it enough for you?

My ds is 8 months. I get 4-5 broken hours. There is a reason sleep deprivation is a torture technique....

JoeBidenIsGreat · 12/11/2020 17:17

5.5 ish. I wish it could be more but I . Just. Don't. Sleep.
I can cope for a few days running on just 2-3/night before a long crash 3rd or 4th night.

hopefulhalf · 12/11/2020 17:23

My phone tells me a get an average of 7hrs 20 mins

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/11/2020 17:34

8-10. If I've been working a lot and have a run of early mornings and long days then at the weekend I'll go to bed at 9 and get up at 10 or so the following day.

Lazysundayafternoons · 12/11/2020 18:46

I try to get 9 hours every night. Any less and I am just miserable and grumpy.

I already cant wait to go to bed.

gypsywater · 12/11/2020 18:47

I get 7 max. 8 is lovely. 9 regularly feels a bit childish Grin

EternalOptimist7 · 12/11/2020 18:52

Felt really rubbish lately as I’ve been going to bed past 12.30. I know it’s not good for me but I start to unwind after DD settles ( which can sometimes be after 9.30 as she has attachment disorder & separation anxiety) so time goes on. Sometimes I fall asleep on the sofa. Plus I have been drinking more wine lately which makes me wake in the night to go to the loo. Ideally I need at least 8 hours. I will try to go to bed earlier & drink less wine.

U2HasTheEdge · 12/11/2020 18:53

Between 5-6 on weekdays if I haven't taken a sleeper. When taking sleeping tablets it's around 6.5 hours. It can also be as low as 4 hours during a bad bout of insomnia.

Weekends with a lie in around 9 hours.

It is not enough, no.

Nosleeptilteenagers · 12/11/2020 18:54

If I could sleep unbroken I’d reckon 6-7hours. As it stands, non sleeping toddler, middle of the night toilet trips and worrying (why does everything seem worse at 2am?!) mean I get 8 hours broken up, sometimes with large gaps in the middle. And I feel like shit most of the time ☹️

I miss sleep.

SecondTimeCharm · 12/11/2020 18:56

6-7. I find 6 is the optimum for me and always has been really, since childhood!

Feel really groggy and out of sorts if I get more than 9

Thismustbelove · 12/11/2020 18:59

I need nine ie if I didn’t put on an alarm I would sleep for nine hours and wake up feeling refreshed and energetic.

I get six.

I wouldn’t get everything done if I slept nine hours.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 12/11/2020 19:01

@hopefulhalf

My phone tells me a get an average of 7hrs 20 mins
How does that work? Is there an app? Or is it just the last time you sent a message or something? I'd love to be able to track my sleep properly to see if I am getting as much as I think or no. Because sometimes I feel like I had a horrid night but maybe I still got enough.

I go to bed at 11pm and get up at 7am so in theory that should be 8 hours. The reality is more like 6-7 hours - I am a light and fitful sleeper - the quality of any sleep I get is fairly poor.

ExcavatorHater · 12/11/2020 19:02

My sleep is really erratic, last night I had 11.5 hours as I fell asleep when I was getting toddler DS to sleep! But the previous week I've had between 4 and 6 hours a night, I think every now and again I just need a decent catch up and then I'm fine to do a week on 5 hours a night.

I have to say I felt amazingly rested when I woke up this morning Grin

cliffdiver · 12/11/2020 19:03

About 8.

I go to bed between 8.30-9.30 and read. Alarm set for 6am.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/11/2020 19:16

On average just over 7 hrs. I wake roughly the same time EVERY day at about 5.30 for the loo and rarely get back to sleep.

blackteaplease · 12/11/2020 19:17

This is really interesting. I went to a sleep workshop this week and they said the sleep requirements are individual. I get somewhere between 5.5 and 7 depending on insomnia.

2bazookas · 12/11/2020 19:30

6 or 7. I need more sleep now than when I was young.

Lazysundayafternoons · 12/11/2020 19:33

Now both DC are asleep and I have got into bed myself Blush

Alarm is set for 5.45 tomorrow so I'll probably browse MN til half 8, then go to sleep

Allamericanreject · 12/11/2020 19:40

About 7 hrs 30 minutes on a work night. It depends on the weekends as my body clock wakes me at 9.30 regardless of when I go to sleep.

I always have a nap though of around an hour before dinner. I'm just a tired individual.

My ideal would be 10-9.30 so 11 hrs 30 mins a night.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 12/11/2020 19:43

Between 3 and 4 hours at the moment. On a good night 5. Wish I could stay asleep, but its been like this for 12 years now.

PolytheneHam · 12/11/2020 19:46

It varies massively. DS doesn't ofteb sleep through, and when I'm at work (I'm only part time these days) i get up at 5am.

It varies between three and six hours per night. I don't think I've had eight hours in years - I'm awful at falling asleep.

I do feel permanently knackered though.

megletthesecond · 12/11/2020 19:48

I've just remembered I got a good night's sleep a couple of years ago. It was amazing not feeling snappy and headachy for a couple of days. I got a really good running time too.

starray · 12/11/2020 19:49

6 but that's too little and I really need at least 8. I can really feel the difference when I get 7 and when I get 6.

hennipenni · 12/11/2020 19:50

At the moment around 4-5 hours, a combination of menopause, night sweats, needing a wee every couple of hours and getting up for work at 4am.
