What do you have for dinner on a weekend?

We used to get a takeaway and eat out a lot at weekends but we've cut back on that in the pandemic due to financial constraints. However, I can't have a normal 'week day' meal on a Friday or Saturday night for dinner!

It has to be something like a supermarket pizza, home made burgers, thai curry etc.

Does anybody else do this?

Last weekend we had chilli nachos on Friday (excellent as I was out till late so needed to be quick and chilli was out the freezer)

Chicken burgers with bacon in brioche buns with homemade chips and salad on Sat

Mango chicken and rice on Sunday. In the garden with one pal (as per the 6 from 2 households rule).

mbosnz · 11/11/2020 20:25

Friday is takeaway, we take it in turns to choose. Saturdays, that's housework and shopping day, so something simple - so home-made burgers, fajitas, etc.

Sunday ranges between trying a new recipe, roast, home-made fish and chips. . . .

charliebear78 · 11/11/2020 20:34

We also have a curry of some sort on either Friday or Sat Night, Perhaps something slow cooked on the Sat ( no time in the week)or a Takeaway.
It feels wrong to have a Curry in the week!( probably because I need copious amounts of wine to wash it down)

laudemio · 11/11/2020 20:35

Yes Friday open a bottle of wine and have an easy dinner and TV. Maybe batch cooked curry or lasagne, pizza or Thai takeaway. If I can be bothered fajitas are fun too.

justjuggling · 11/11/2020 22:52

We have one takeaway a month on the Friday after I get paid - pay day takeaway! Saturday nights are usually something we can munch on our laps whilst watching TV and Sunday is always always a roast.

MonsterKidz · 11/11/2020 22:57

I agree! You can’t have a normal dinner on a Friday or Saturday!

We eat healthy mon - thursday.

Friday is cheat night - so pizzas, curry, chinese, mexican. Sometimes take always or just more pre ready and easy stuff.

Saturday - I’ll make something ‘nice’. Again, Mexican, italian, thai something like that.

Sunday is always a roast or a pie or a shepherds pie or something wholesome and hearty. In summer, Sunday is usually BBQ day/

@MyGazeboisLeaking

This question has been asked before OP, and it's an eye opener!

Most people do have a different weekend menu, but some people think that's bonkers, and have spag bol, salmon and new potatoes, pasta bake etc ON A SATURDAY 😱😱😱😱

Who are these people?!

We always have "special' Friday & weekend meals - Either takeout, or decent burgers, chips, coleslaw, onion rings etc. Yum 😎

Haha, yes I couldn't imagine having a week night meal on a Saturday. This week we'll have had halloumi salad, gnocchi with roasted veg, veggie chilli and stir fry. I'd wouldn't feel satisfied having any of that on a weekend! Might have take away fish and chips on Friday night...good suggestion, we hardly ever have fish abs chips. home made thai curry or pad Thai on Saturday.

Interested in these pastie suppers from NI- I've never heard of that! Is it like a spam fritter ?

Fajitas!

52andblue · 12/11/2020 14:25

gaining ideas from this :)

Atalune · 12/11/2020 14:35

We have a takeaway on a Saturday. It’s the LAW and Friday nights are either-
Steak and chips
Homemade pizza in the outdoor pizza oven
Wagamama style- gyozas, pad Thai, chilli broccoli, rice, etc.
Chilli with all the bits
Kids have pop and we have cold beers or a nice bottle of red.

Sunday is a quick and easy supper unless the in-laws are coming in which case it’s a roast x

MrDarcysMa · 13/11/2020 19:15

@Atalune can you adopt me ; - )

We've just had pasta bake for supper and I had a mental image of disapproving mumsnetters thinking what a shockingly boring meal for a Friday night. Grin

Marmite27 · 13/11/2020 20:44

Friday is fakeaway night, curry, Chinese, pizza - HM southern fried chicken burgers tonight.

Saturday is pub classics - lasagne, steak pie, chicken & ribs, (freezer) fish and chips. Sometimes some of Fridays creep in. Tomorrow it’s honey garlic chicken, I fried rice and prawn crackers.

EternalOptimist7 · 13/11/2020 20:44

lazysundayafternoons blimey - a roast for dinner & pizza for tea?! Phew!

Titsywoo · 13/11/2020 20:46

We have takeaway a couple of times a month. We don't have special weekend food unless we have a roast on a Sunday.

EternalOptimist7 · 13/11/2020 20:47

Marmite27 honey garlic chicken sounds amazing!

EternalOptimist7 · 13/11/2020 20:54

We can’t afford takeaways at the mo but always used to have fish & chips on a Friday or Saturday night. And Asda pizzas on a Sat if we had chippy tea on a Fri. I don’t tend to do roasts although I love them.

Almost always a roast on Sunday, Saturdays could be anything. I do the big shop on a Saturday so we have lots of choice. I do tend to buy pizzas and we have a movie night.

Atalune · 14/11/2020 09:18

@MrDarcysMa yes come over anytime Grin

MustardMitt · 15/11/2020 01:41

We had home made kebabs tonight. I was feeling dead domestic and we had mince so I made koftas.

I ruined mine by putting on too much sauce Sad

Cordial11 · 16/11/2020 07:54

Omg I put a post about this a while back that spag Bol was a sin at the weekend!!!

My favourites are...

Homemade curries I make with samosas from the indian sweet shops which I warm up .

Homemade chinese salt and pepper chicken with mayflower curry sauce (really decent copy of takeaway)

Pizza, chicken wings, potato skins

Homemade kfc zinger burgers

Garlic and white wine mussels Grin

drumandthebass · 16/11/2020 11:59

Yes we totally do this. Friday night might be something like lasagne or fajitas, Saturday might something like burgers or maybe ribs and chicken wings. I couldn't have a "proper" dinner on Friday or Saturday

drumandthebass · 16/11/2020 11:59

And always a roast on Sunday
