@StealthPolarBear

I disagree with it - affect is not an action :)
Why isn't it? I thought affect was usually the action and effect was usually the thing?
SunsetBeetch · 09/11/2020 16:38

Fabulous mugs, Ken and secret

@Musicalmistress

I want one! Although I think my head teacher might object to me having it on my desk at work, for obvious reasons 😂😂
Seeing as kids always pick up swear words quicker this could be a whole new way of teaching.
ChasedByFox · 09/11/2020 17:31

Is effect a fucking result though? I think fucking not (to effect a change...)

janj2301 · 09/11/2020 18:27

Old hat now but still funny

That speaks to me, jan

It’s ‘to affect a change’.

Effect is what happens as a result of something else.

WitchesSpelleas · 10/11/2020 12:17

It’s ‘to affect a change’

No it isn't - Fox is correct. 'To effect a change' is to bring a change about.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 12:21

Oh fuck me, I even know that!

In my defence I’ve not had coffee yet after a terrible night (but that’s no excuse I know!)

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 12:23

Wait I’m sure I was trying to say something that was correct... I’ll have to work back and see if I can figure it out...

(SO embarrassed now! Blush Blush )

ChasedByFox · 10/11/2020 12:26

Heheh- you don't think I double checked before posting on a spelling/grammar thread? Grin

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 12:26

And effect definitely is a result of something as well. I think I got confused by the assertion that it’s not...

Effect is a verb when used in the sentence I got wrong above, but it’s certainly a result in many other contexts.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 12:27

Haha @ChasedByFox I know! I don’t know what was wrong with me. Grin

lockupyourcinammon · 10/11/2020 12:36

So cringe

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 12:39

I obviously needed taking down a peg or two today!

Ah well. Time for a cup of coffee!

WitchesSpelleas · 10/11/2020 12:56

It's inevitable that, if you're going to make a mistake, it'll be on a SPAG thread - Muphry's Law. Wink

I see what you did there! Grin
Tempusfudgeit · 10/11/2020 13:02

R-Affect-Verb-Effect-Noun

RAVEN

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 13:13

That’s only partly correct though - both words can be both a verb and a noun. I know that for sure (please god let that be correct!)

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 13:15

Missing full stop there...

I’ve had coffee now.

Catabogus · 10/11/2020 13:25

I quite like it...but I think the split infinitive would irritate me too much if I had to drink from it.

ChasedByFox · 10/11/2020 13:45

Mmmm...coffee...

OliveHenry · 10/11/2020 13:49

The typo on "posession" would bug me too much!

MandalaYogaTapestry · 10/11/2020 13:54

Affect is totally an action!

Eg., How would a job loss affect your lifestyle?

dudsville · 10/11/2020 13:57

Oh this is great! I was expecting a burying EB cup. I particularly loved the definition of lose!
