I need a sofa on finance but I can't wait 17 weeks!

I've looked at DFS, Sofology, Wayfair etc.

Minimum delivery time is 17 weeks.

Is this due to the rona? I'm sure it used to be 6 weeks max!

Can you go to Ikea in December? The sofas tend to be cheaper but you’d need to use own credit card as I don’t think they do finance.

bluewindows · 07/11/2020 21:09

Argos.
Next day delivery on some, a few weeks on others.
Same manufacturer as Habitat.

dublingirl66 · 07/11/2020 21:10

Or second hand ? Some fab leather ones I have seen

Or my friend covered her second hand fabric one with lovely throws it looks amazing !!!?

Wayfair for reduced ones?

Greenhairbrush · 07/11/2020 21:10

Yes. We ordered one with a 8 week delivery time back in August, should have been delivered early October now supposed to come middle of November days before I’m due with dc2.
Of course it’s been blamed on corona.

Smallsteps88 · 07/11/2020 21:10

Could you get a cheap second hand one off gumtree while you save up for £££ one?

NoahsArk17 · 07/11/2020 21:11

I think the companies are just a bit shit. We got one last year and 13 weeks turned into 20 with 7 weeks of being completely fobbed off. 0% credit card on one that can be delivered ASAP if you can.

Wondering1215 · 07/11/2020 21:11

This is the thing, our savings are tied up so we can't afford to buy outright but even so, I'm not a fan of IKEA sofas.

Budget is £1500 for a corner sofa on finance but it appears to be impossible unless we wait until February. I know February will be here before we know it but our sofas are an absolute state.

I'd get a second hand one. try fb buy & sell, schpock, eBay. No way would I take on debt for a sofa.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/11/2020 21:20

I work in the industry. There is a shortage of materials due to Covid. It's the same across the entire board. A lot of places will be forced to pause production soon. That's the reason things are taking so long.

Wyntersdiary · 07/11/2020 21:26

honeypot furniture or chelseafurnishings.co.uk

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/11/2020 21:28

Also there has been a massive increase in orders since August. People aren't going on holiday so they're all doing up their houses instead. The small company I work for had to stop the pre Christmas guarantee at the beginning of October due to the sheer volume of orders.

Metallicalover · 07/11/2020 21:30

Have you tried marks and Spencer?

user1493413286 · 07/11/2020 21:34

It must be to do with covid as we ordered one from dfs last year and had it within 6 weeks. I guess there’s a backlog maybe

thriftyhen · 07/11/2020 21:35

Two of our sofas we got from Freecycle. There are always sofas on there, although not at the moment because of Covid. Both were in a great condition and one is Laura Ashley.

Better to recycle than kill the planet with new stuff and saves you a load of money too!

missymousey · 07/11/2020 21:36

Gumtree and a man with a van

Chocarocker · 07/11/2020 21:40

Next? I got one from there in a couple of weeks (dependant on which fabric).

YankeeDoodlePoodleNoodle · 07/11/2020 22:00

Can you buy/get one for free from facebook marketplace/charity shop or similar for now? Just for something to sit on until you can get the one you want on finance or save up for the one you want.

MooChops89 · 07/11/2020 22:05

I've had a new sofa from SCS a few weeks ago, it took 9 weeks. They told me 8-10.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 07/11/2020 22:14

A family member works for a furniture wholesaler. His boss was worried about having to lay people off in march. Had cashflow issues, money tied up in stock etc. At no point did they actually fully close (although some staff were furloughed briefly and some took redundancy).

By the end of the summer they were so busy they were running out of stock. Mostly from online retailers. FM said they had dozens of pre sold containers worth of stock coming last month. Never known them to be so busy. Did a year's worth of business in 4 months.

People are definitely spending more on their homes. Check wayfair. I think they do credit?

Pimmsypimms · 07/11/2020 22:15

We ordered 2 sofas from Sofology in August with a 13 week wait. They were supposed to be delivered this week but one was damaged in transit and so they told us that we'd have to wait another 17 weeks for them to make a new one and get it delivered!!
Absolutely shocking service!
So we're now stuck with our crappy old, dying sofas and no way of getting them replaced by Christmas!

Blueshmoo · 07/11/2020 22:16

Ncf, 8 weeks, got it right on time, great service.

Kbear · 07/11/2020 23:43

NCF at lakeside Thurrock - also online- some are immediate delivery - ours took a week

Wondering1215 · 08/11/2020 00:08

Thank you for all of your replies! @bluewindows I didn't consider argos, nor did I consider sis @Moochops89.

@dublingirl66 we've been covering ours up with throws for years. I've had enough!

Thanks @waxonwaxoff0 its nice to know I'm not going crazy!
