What does this insult mean?

I’ve been informed that a male colleague (who has been sacked but apparently for something unrelated) has been using various nicknames for women at work in his email correspondences and my boss told me the one for me was “tinsel tits”.

Now I’m sure (well I know) that some will have had worse names but I’m not quite sure what mine actually means about me and it’s playing on my mind.

What would you assume by this nickname?

I’ve googled and it doesn’t really come up?

I didn’t have that much to do with this guy which is why I am confused as to why he would have an opinion of me. To me the name suggests someone who wears a lot of make up or jewellery maybe, I don’t wear either, at work when we were there I wore leggings and uggs. I was also pregnant for most of the time we worked together.

I know it shouldn’t bother me at all but it’s kind of upset me, it makes you think of how others perceive you when all you are doing is going about your daily business.

It is violating OP so I sympathise, misogyny is vile and widespread. Your boss I'd also unprofessional and we don't need to make excuses for men being inappropriate by declaring their hearts were in the right place or citing their 'traditional' (usually sexist) personalities. They are cogent adults and shoul adhere to professional standards of decency and decorum.

The same logic applies to the vulgar comments. Try not to put too much stock in whether it matters if some pathetic loser may have (you will never know) been making derogatory comments about an aspect of your appearance. He isn't entitled to an opinion and it would be better to remember that than focus on what he meant. Misogyny dictates we feel bad about ourselves, doesn't mean we always have to.

You need a person over 45yo to explain these.

Nah, I'm 42 and I knew it. It means distractingly nice boobs- can't take your eyes off them.

I agree that your boss is an idiot, OP.

What were the other nicknames?

Oh dear god love, he's a pathetic no-hoper - because he doesn't know how to treat people with respect and thinks it's funny.

It's disrespectful because that's all he knows how to be, shallow as a puddle and with as much value. Not all people are worth bothering with.

take it as a lesson in how useless some people are and dismiss it
