What does this insult mean?

I’ve been informed that a male colleague (who has been sacked but apparently for something unrelated) has been using various nicknames for women at work in his email correspondences and my boss told me the one for me was “tinsel tits”.

Now I’m sure (well I know) that some will have had worse names but I’m not quite sure what mine actually means about me and it’s playing on my mind.

What would you assume by this nickname?

I’ve googled and it doesn’t really come up?

I didn’t have that much to do with this guy which is why I am confused as to why he would have an opinion of me. To me the name suggests someone who wears a lot of make up or jewellery maybe, I don’t wear either, at work when we were there I wore leggings and uggs. I was also pregnant for most of the time we worked together.

I know it shouldn’t bother me at all but it’s kind of upset me, it makes you think of how others perceive you when all you are doing is going about your daily business.

@CarinaMarina

It doesn't mean anything, like sugar tits or soppy bollocks. It's stupid and childish and should never have been used at work, let alone revealed to you, but don't fret over it - it means absolutely nothing at all.
I agree with this. It’s a ubiquitous nickname, not a personal slight as such.
Astella22 · 05/11/2020 18:32

It means he is a bit thick and can’t think of anything that actually relates to u, the furthest he got was 1, u have ‘tits’ (uggg hate that word) and 2 tinsel also starts with a t. Sounds like an immature twat

IliveonCoffee · 05/11/2020 18:33

I can sort of understand why he told you... doesn't make it the right thing to have done, but I can kind of see it.

By telling you all, I suppose he felt like he it was like letting you all in on the joke...not that he thought it was funny. Just more, making you all aware so no-one can snigger behind your backs about it.

And yeah, It does make you wonder...but really the only people who voice this sort of shit are small minded.

DryRoastPeanut · 05/11/2020 18:33

I always interpreted this to mean someone with distractingly great tits.
You was pregnant, it makes sense. Move on.

VettiyaIruken · 05/11/2020 18:37

I've heard it. Not since I was a kid! I'm surprised it's still used.

It's basically dismissive crap. Making out someone's (normally a woman 🤬) is uptight or stuck up.
It's very 'calm down, dear'

Calm your tits
Settle down, tinsel tits

thebuntingofblymanor · 05/11/2020 18:38

Yes he’s told all of us the names each of us got, and each of us have since discussed it with each other.

I definitely got off lightly I think as the others were easier to understand what the meaning was.

thebuntingofblymanor · 05/11/2020 18:40

I think he’s done it to be seen to be transparent.

VettiyaIruken · 05/11/2020 18:40

Your manager absolutely should not have told you. Wtf was the point of doing that?

JuliaJohnston · 05/11/2020 18:42

@thebuntingofblymanor

I think he’s done it to be seen to be transparent.
He doesn't need to be transparent about a former employee's transgressions?? Why do you think this?
blarbed · 05/11/2020 18:43

Tinsel is shiny, dazzling and therefore easily noticed as it attracts your attention. I think he's saying you have noticeable (big) tits.

blarbed · 05/11/2020 18:44

Oh I've just other interpretations above.... so I could be wrong.

MarshaBradyo · 05/11/2020 18:46

Wtf did he tell you?

I’d take it further too sounds a hideous environment

Diva66 · 05/11/2020 18:48

It means your colleague is a misogynist twat.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/11/2020 18:49

It just means that your ex-colleague is a sexist arsehole. It says nothing about you at all OP.

SonjaMorgan · 05/11/2020 18:49

I thought it was used in relation to women who put Xmas decorations around this time of year. e.g "calm the hell down tinsel tits, it's only November!"

DrDavidBanner · 05/11/2020 18:51

What would you assume by this nickname?

I'd assume he was a child and good riddance, and your boss is a goady fucker.

Also do not waste your energy fretting about the inner workings of dickheads, trust me there's really not much to analyse.

eddiemairswife · 05/11/2020 18:54

There was a reporter on Newsnight some years ago who was supposed to have a pierced nipple.......his nickname was tinsel tits.

Boatonthehorizon · 05/11/2020 18:58

You need a person over 45yo to explain these. I'm a 48yo woman.

Tinsel tits can mean glamorous or well put together / attractive / well maintained appearance.
More likely to mean young or at least keeping well and attractive/ fanciable. It means he approves of your tits.
It's an alliteration.
The tinsel bit refers to good looking, attractive, appealing on the eye. The tits bit refers to the fact you are a woman.
Better than saggy socks, mardy arse, faghag, bagvag (bg) or trout pout (which has been around for decades and has had an complete change of meaning. Used to mean ugly, or smelly, like a fish.)

Legs eleven, which means you have nice legs or wear skirts or can mean you are tallish, is similar to tinsel tits. They're both (old fashioned) compliments.

Fleurdelys1 · 05/11/2020 18:59

It’s a saying about dazzle-dazzle showgirls on the stage “teeth, tits and tinsel”

Fleurdelys1 · 05/11/2020 18:59

Razzle-dazzle

yetanothernamitynamechange · 05/11/2020 19:00

You are a woman. You have tits(uuurgh) he likes and approves of said tits (double urge) I doubt it means more than that.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/11/2020 19:00

Who was he sending these emails to tho?

If A is sending email to B saying "oh notice Tinsel Tits didn't get it til 9.05 again" and B has just ignored or replied but not reported, I wouldn't really want to work with B either

Uuurgh not urge

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/11/2020 19:01

I think it just the alliteration of the T's.
So a bit like...
