Interesting observation about my cat since his brother died

I acquired two tabby brothers fifteen years ago from a lady who kept them in a flat since kittens. When she became pregnant she decided to find a more suitable home for them and I was lucky enough to see her advert in a local pet shop.

They have had a wonderful life since with full access to outdoors in a safe low-car area and, although litter brothers, were not affectionate with each other more like sibling rivals.

Osc died on 5th October after a short illness and he had been a noisy cat, miowing to us regularly. Jumps was the silent one.

Now Jumps is miowing more to me, particularly when he wants door open, or when he feels it is tea time, or when I am not sitting so he can sit with me. This is something Oscar did and Jumps was silent.

Does this resonate with any other cat owners?

About almost a month ago my male cat Creamy passed away his Sister Peaches actually watched him take his last breath
She went through the sadness not really eating much or drinking much but now she is back to her old self except she is now more vocal and always on me or wants to be close to me and she now goes to my husband more than before

I had 2 brother and sister cats. Their big brother was adopted by NDN.

My cats were locked in living room to sleep and think the male dominated his sister and maybe tried to mate with her?!

once out in garden their brother was there, he was always a bit aggressive toward his brother, who was a total softie and hated fighting. Big brother NDN tried to swipe at his sister but she put him in his place and he retreated, cowed! I think all 3 used to hunt together too.

When they all discovered they lived next door to each other it was amazing. Like Long Lost Family on tv!

When the male sadly died at 13, his sister came more into her own. But she always demanded my attention if he was getting any. Usually by scratching the sofa to bits so I yelled at her to stop! She then socialised in the garden with NDN brother until he died at 15 before her who died at 17. Quite sweet.

My cat after that, Felix was half Siamese and half moggy. He was adopted by me at 5 months and still lived with his mum. His siblings were adopted at the usual age, only 2 of them. When he came to me he cried and hid for 2 weeks. Vets receptionist suggested something with scent of his mum on which I got from their house, but when I did that I let him sniff it, I think he got confused as to where she was and he just got upset so I took it away. Gradually he forgot about her (his mum). When he died suddenly at 5 I buried him with his collar which had been the one he wore at his birth home and still had scent of his mum on it. When he came to me with that collar on he got upset if he saw or smelled it as it still had her (his mum’s) scent on it, so I got him a new collar which he tolerated for a while then refused to wear. I kept his first collar from his birth home as a sort of keepsake.
