What do you serve your Toad in the Hole with?

I grew up having it with mash, veggies and gravy. Just mentioned to DH I'm cooking it with DS for dinner tonight, and he said the only way to serve it is with baked beans.

What's your go to sides for Toad in the Hole?

Peas or baked beans. No gravy. That is how my boys like it. I don't serve potatoes with it as double carbs.

Update Grin
I cooked it last night in a loaf tin instead of usual dish and oh my gosh it was so good!!

What a timely thread, we're having toad-in-the-hole in a couple of days! I am planning to do cabbage and carrots with it, and red onion gravy. Maybe a soupçon of spud too.
@mcgonagalscat your loaf tin creation does look good, could I ask how long you baked it and at what temperature?

mcgonagalscat · 24/10/2020 08:07

It was Jamie's recipe www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pork-recipes/toad-in-the-hole/

Browned the sausages in a pan first, though

Onion gravy, carrots, broccoli and cabbage.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 24/10/2020 08:13

Baked beans. Every time.

LoeliaPonsonby · 24/10/2020 08:20

Cabbage and gravy

Ginfordinner · 24/10/2020 08:23

Veg and onion gravy. I love the idea of stuffing balls as well. Any kind of potato would be too stodgy for me. I'm not a manual labourer.

I make Delia's recipe.

zatarontoast · 24/10/2020 08:25

I've never had this but it sounds nice, so you cook the sausage first?

BoudiccasBoudoir · 24/10/2020 08:50

Baked beans go with a cooked breakfast, on top of a baked potato with lots of cheese, or on toast.

Toad in the hole with veg, gravy, and maybe some mash

StarlightLady · 24/10/2020 09:00

Mushrooms inside it. Oh, and a chap up the road!!!!

bringbackCabanas · 24/10/2020 09:26

I made toad in the hole the other day for first time in years. I made veg mash and gravy to go with it BUT I did feel a bit wrong having the mash due to the carb overload. It was delish, though.

thismeansnothing · 24/10/2020 09:30

A nice onion gravy and veggies.

If I fancy being in a coma afterwards some chips too.

DinosApple · 24/10/2020 09:35

Broccoli, carrots, peas and gravy. I throw a few spuds in for DH too as he's a hungry sort.

userxx · 24/10/2020 09:47

@zatarontoast Yes, whack them in the oven and cook first then near the end pour the batter mixture over. I think anyway, I've never made it myself but my mum used to.

Bloodybridget · 26/10/2020 05:20

Thanks @mcgonagalscat!

nevergoingoutagain · 26/10/2020 05:55

Carrots peas and gravy. No potatoes as you already have the batter.

Which is weird as we have to have potatoes AND Yorkshire pudding with roast dinner 🤷🏻‍♀️

KatherineJaneway · 26/10/2020 06:02

Mash, vegetables and gravy.

Fishlegs · 26/10/2020 06:10

We’re veggie and usually make toad in the hole with veggie sausages. However the other day I made this (Ottolenghi’s roast veg toad in the hole) served with sticky mushroom and onion gravy. My, it was delicious 😋

That pic is from the recipe btw, mine wasn’t quite as nicely presented.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/10/2020 06:25

Veg.
Something green and something another colour, so carrots, or red cabbage or sweet potato.
Always onion gravy too.

Bloodybridget · 27/10/2020 06:58

@mcgonagalscat thanks v much again for the JO recipe, DP made it last night, it was divine (she used an ordinary roasting tin though).
