What do you serve your Toad in the Hole with?

I grew up having it with mash, veggies and gravy. Just mentioned to DH I'm cooking it with DS for dinner tonight, and he said the only way to serve it is with baked beans.

What's your go to sides for Toad in the Hole?

A big dollop of buttered mash and peas. Oh, lashing of gravy! I cook mine with an onion base in the batter mix. Alas my family are fussy food bastards, as such I make it once a year or so (possibly this week as I'm suddenly hungry for one now!)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/10/2020 13:06

Veg and gravy.

Baked beans??

WildCherryBlossom · 22/10/2020 13:06

Broccoli, carrots, gravy

Cauliflower, mashed swede, mash and gravy.

My mum always served it with tinned tomatoes. Nice but not filling enough.

MJMG2015 · 22/10/2020 13:08

I can't eat to it anymore, but when I did -mashed potato & mushy peas!!

Drool

Baked beans??? It's meat and yorkshire pudding batter - would you serve your roast beef with baked beans?!

Oh my... I need a lie down after this revelation...!

(Mash or roast potatoes with veg and gravy in our house)

Gingaaarghpussy · 22/10/2020 13:22

Tomato sauce.

FannyFernackerpan · 22/10/2020 13:22

Mash, onion gravy and buttered cabbage.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 22/10/2020 13:50

Get round the carb issue by having swede and carrot mash ( yes it contains carbs but less than proper mash. But it needs a green too.

PigletJohn · 22/10/2020 14:16

mash, gravy, and a green veg.

I sometimes do onion sauce with sausages but not with toads.

timeforawine · 22/10/2020 14:20

Veg, few roasties or a small portion of tumbled spuds (basically very lightly mashed with butter and black pepper, so still potato texture) and gravy, mint sauce for me but not husband or daughter

justjuggling · 22/10/2020 20:14

Mash, peas and gravy

Mumtumwobble · 22/10/2020 21:30

Mash, veg (usually peas) and onion gravy. Baked beans is all kinds of wrong.

IdblowJonSnow · 22/10/2020 21:33

Just greens n gravy.

Sarahplane · 22/10/2020 21:42

parsnips, carrots and broccoli. oh and gravy

Tillygetsit · 23/10/2020 00:39

Baked beans. Yum.

OHappyDay · 23/10/2020 00:41

Just veg and gravy but I’m feeling like I need extra comfort food carby goodness then I’d do it with mash, sage and onion stuffing balls, veg and gravy Wine

MrsGRamsay · 23/10/2020 00:44

Veg and onion gravy but reading upthread about leeks with cheese sauce is a game changer! Yum.

AdaColeman · 23/10/2020 00:45

Cauliflower cheese
Or
Red cabbage and mash

Glitterbubbles · 23/10/2020 00:46

Homemade chips and gravy, allll the carbs in this house!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/10/2020 00:46

Peas and ketchup. Tesco used to sell a sweet chilli ketchup that was particularly good with toads too, but I haven't seen it for a while.

MadisonAvenue · 23/10/2020 00:57

Mash, peas, carrots and cabbage with gravy.

planningaheadtoday · 23/10/2020 00:58

Home made thick Onion gravy.
