Oliver or Hugo?

Baby due next week and can’t decide. The popularity of Oliver isn’t an issue so doesn’t need to be mentioned. Simply.... which is a nicer sounding name?

Hugo.

I have a 10 year old version - never once been called Huge/Huggy/Hugs/Yougo.......etc but is known almost universally as Boogie.

I used to imagine shouting my name's at sports day or something and think 'would i be embarrassed shouting this, would i sound pretentious or chavvy?' On that basis it would be a no to Hugo as i dont have a peerage and would feel like a dick shouting it.

Oliver

I can't hear Hugo without hearing 'No, hu go.'

Sorry to all the Hugo mums x

zazasabore · 21/10/2020 21:03

Eliphanbee · 21/10/2020 21:05

I like Oliver

EmbarrassedUser · 21/10/2020 21:25

Oliver. Hugo is awful, so wet 🤮 Poor kid will be teased like mad.

Magicbabywaves · 21/10/2020 22:09

Teased for what?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/10/2020 22:10

Hugo

Cantdoitallperfectly · 21/10/2020 22:12

I like both equally :)

TheSnootiestFox · 21/10/2020 22:16

@EmbarrassedUser As there's at least one Hugo is every year at my Hugo's school, I can assure you he's not teased because of his name. Why on earth would he be?? Confused

underneaththeash · 21/10/2020 22:39

What accent do you have, Hugo sounds quite harsh in my sort of northern (but had lived near London for many years!)

Cheerybigbottom · 21/10/2020 22:40

Oliver

Oliver.

Feckmesideways · 21/10/2020 23:55

I would go for Hugo, though I would be tempted to call him Hugh,I love the name Hugh. There are a tonnes of Oliver’s, Ollies, Olly’s in my ds year.

lilacmoon78 · 21/10/2020 23:57

Oliver is better - Hugo doesn't have any nickname potential

MaudHatter · 22/10/2020 01:42

My son has one of your names. They’re both lovely names but I would say Hugo is less popular.

Letshavesometea · 22/10/2020 02:06
