School said court order on my file

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 11:08

Don't know what heading to put this under

My kids school set up a new sims app which shows their attendance records timetables and school sends notes if any closure etc

I have 3 kids at school
Only one on app and got an email today to say there is a court order against my other 2 and they can not give me any further information on this.
I am deeply upset and emailed back to ask it be looked into and is there anything in paper format to back this up.

What would other parents do
School is closing tomorrow and I really don't want this hanging over me.
The office staff in school are looking into it but I am deeply upset.
We have never been in court for anything
Married for 18 years
3 kids all same parents
Any advice anyone

It sounds like a cock up to me based on the information in your post.

Mumdiva99 · 15/10/2020 11:11

This sounds like a mistake. Don't panic. I'm sure the school will sort it out. Sounds like an odd email to recieve....what was the exact wording and what did the office staff say when you called up?

longtompot · 15/10/2020 11:14

Sounds like a mixup. My dh got a letter from his dr saying he couldn't contact them in a phone appointment. He'd had an appointment, but the week before and it was a face to face. The dr got him mixed up with another patient. I hope your issue is sorted soon.

I'm sorry but I think the only thing you can do is wait for the school to get back to you. It could be that somebody has ticked the wrong box on a form somewhere by mistake. I've had a few experiences like that (although for less major things but it set my anxiety skyrocketing and I was imagining all sorts). Hopefully it will get sorted out soon.

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 11:18

@Mumdiva99 the exact wording was
There is a box for Court Order ticked on their file.
Can you think of a reason for this.
I have been trying all week to get app sorted with the staff member who is looking after it.
She asked the office staff to look into it.
I have not contacted school as this teacher said they would contact me.
I really don't want to be causing them any hassle but I think it is a serious allegation to have ticked court order on both
Now one you could say error but 2 and then the third child doesn't so it's not looking like they are all linked.

Mistakes happen - my daughter was registered as a completely different ethnic background - ask them to review and update accordingly.

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 11:26

@Todaytomorrow09 yes I agree mistakes happen but on both files and not on the third really doesn't look like a mistake.
If it was all 3 I would say a mistake and all linked but it doesn't appear like that to me.
If it was a spell mistake I wouldn't care or a wrong subject but Court Order and asking me do I know like why didn't they check properly before even telling me.
Like they could have looked more into it and not even let me know if it was an error they made.

Contact the school office, it might be that the teacher is trying to cover up a mistake they have made, but it is causing you anxiety and they should sort it out.

Bluetrews25 · 15/10/2020 11:50

GDPR means that you are entitled to have mistakes corrected. IIRC

Mumdiva99 · 15/10/2020 11:52

I would imagine it is just a database error when they transferred to a new system. Probably a field has been incorrectly mapped. Just call the school office. I bet it is no big deal and they sort it there and then.

Viviennemary · 15/10/2020 13:15

Tell the school you want it sorted out and a reply within 24 hours or you will be contacting your local authority and your MP. If this is causing you stress and has no foundation then it's a serious matter.

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 13:54

@Viviennemary thanks
They have now added all 3 to the sims app
But no reply off any kind from school.
I really don't know if I should just leave it
I would like some kind off an explanation.
As to be on 2 kids and not one Is the mystery if they where all linked I would accept errors happen but I am so puzzled.

IME Sims is a horrible, complicated and totally illogical program, it wouldn't take much at all for an error like this to be made IMO. I would contact school anyway; I get that you don't want to make a fuss or whatever, but something potentially if this magnitude is an exception If be happy to make.

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 18:53

@lindaFromMCC
The teacher dealing with me emailed me back and said she was working from home today due to Covid19 but will be back in tomorrow and will look more into it no one is taking responsibility for the error so I think I will have to leave it as I'm only getting more annoyed.

Viviennemary · 15/10/2020 18:59

It's obviously an error so try not to worry about it too much. I'm a worrier too and I would hate this. If the teacher is looking into it tomorrow thats good news. Hope it gets sorted out soon.

BelleSausage · 15/10/2020 19:01

Do you have a common name or surname? You won’t believe how often we have two kids called something like ‘Callum Hooper’ or ‘Charlotte Jones’ sometime in the same year and they get letters for the other one.

StellaGib · 15/10/2020 19:05

Sounds like a simple mistake, easily rectified - what is it that you are so worried about OP?

Feefifo9 · 15/10/2020 19:07

@eurochick

Yes. Sounds like a mistake.
MitziK · 15/10/2020 19:31

Are you talking about the little checkbox for Court Order on contact details? The one that allows the school to send correspondence to a second parent living at another address?

If so, that's nothing for you to worry about at all.

Andi2020 · 15/10/2020 20:29

@Mitzik we had no input into any set up of the sims app and me and my DH who is all 3 dad all live at same address so why would someone at another address be getting information on my kids.

no one is taking responsibility for the error

How can someone take responsibility for an error when it hasn’t yet been investigated?!

ArnieLinson · 15/10/2020 20:53

@Viviennemary

Contact the Daily Mail as well and pose with a sad face.
Rockbird · 15/10/2020 20:55

As a daily SIMS user it sounds like a cock up when entering information or transferring it over. It's odd that two out of three had it added though. Are they twins and a single? Trying to think of any other reason the two might have been linked out of the three.

You're entitled to an answer though so if the teacher doesn't come back to you definitely raise it with the office and/or safeguarding lead.

MitziK · 15/10/2020 21:00
@Mitzik we had no input into any set up of the sims app and me and my DH who is all 3 dad all live at same address so why would someone at another address be getting information on my kids.
I'm not talking about the app, I mean the actual version of the programme that schools use.

It could easily be clicked upon when entering contact details if it's that little box for Court Order. It's also right next to another tiny checkbox for entering whether somebody has Parental Responsibility (and again shows that information relating to the children can be shared with him).

If not and it's a Quicknote on the Student Details screen just under the personal details of the children, it's likely that it's been accidentally entered when it was meant for another child, as other posters have said.

Teachers are the worst people to ask about SIMS issues because they don't need to use it in the same way that Support Staff do - your best bet is to contact both the Heads of Year and the office manager; that way they can look at the details and see instantly if there has been an error made and correct it where necessary.

I can think of no reason for there to be any secret court orders made regarding two out of three children - you'd know if there was anything going on. Which is why I think it's either a stray click or a simple error that can be rectified easily once somebody who knows SIMS well looks at it combined with any paperwork (as that could well relate to somebody else and support staff might not have access to the CP files, as they're usually kept separately from the main student ones).

In other words, don't panic. Contact the HoY and office manager, say you believe a mistake may have been made based upon what Miss Whatever said to you on the phone and you'd be grateful if they could check, sort out any problems and contact you to let you know it's been rectified.
