School said court order on my file

Don't know what heading to put this under

My kids school set up a new sims app which shows their attendance records timetables and school sends notes if any closure etc

I have 3 kids at school
Only one on app and got an email today to say there is a court order against my other 2 and they can not give me any further information on this.
I am deeply upset and emailed back to ask it be looked into and is there anything in paper format to back this up.

What would other parents do
School is closing tomorrow and I really don't want this hanging over me.
The office staff in school are looking into it but I am deeply upset.
We have never been in court for anything
Married for 18 years
3 kids all same parents
Any advice anyone

I once had problems with one of my Brownies. She got mixed up on the Guiding database with another girl who had the exact same name, with the exact same DOB, who lived in the next village in a road with a similar name, and the postcode was also very similar.
What are the chances!

It took ages to sort out especially as the other Leader was elderly and didn't understand how databases work.

OrtamLeevz · 15/10/2020 21:06

Definitely chase it up. If they have made this mistake with you, they could have done the opposite with genuinely vulnerable children, which could potentially be disastrous.

Don't wait for the teacher to get back to you.
Get on the phone first thing and ask to speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Ask them for what evidence they have to support why this has been out in your childrens' files.
If they can't tell you (they should be able to), insist that it is removed immediately.

In our school the teachers can't even access SIMS so there'd be no point asking them anything. Just give the office a call - like someone else said, it's a tiny wee checkbox that is right under the check box to confirm you have parental responsibility, guarantee it's just been ticked in error. Speak to the Admin Officer or the SIMS Data manager and they'll correct it.

Hercwasonaroll · 15/10/2020 22:06

Contacting a DSL as if it's an emergency over a likely data entry error is a massive overkill. Wait to see what the teacher comes back with first.

Rockbird · 16/10/2020 16:46

No it isn't. Because if I went into SIMS and unchecked a court order box without checking with the DSL first I'd be for the high jump. So if someone called me to query it, I would check with them before I did anything. But then we're a school with a high number of families with various issues.

Mistigri · 16/10/2020 16:54

Politely ask who is the data protection officer at the school and make a subject access request. It will then be sorted out in 5 minutes flat.

Tbh it does not sound as if they take the handling of personal data very seriously.

Hercwasonaroll · 16/10/2020 17:46

The parent to directly contact the DSL is not needed. The teacher who the parent has been in contact with should do that. The DSL can then prioritise and deal with it appropriately.

Got this off the internet. Just below the tiny box that's circled, you'll see the tiny box that has quite likely been accidentally clicked on because SIMS isn't particularly accessible for people with less than perfect eyesight - you can't make the display/font/boxes any larger.

That's what I mean about it being nothing to worry about and best directed to the office manager/Head of Year.

Thanks everyone
The member off staff I dealt with has taken over the sims app but didn't set it up originally
She apologised by email yesterday evening and said it was an error someone made and they have no idea how it happened
So with all this covid19 stress going on for everyone I'm going to accept apology and forget about it.

Glad it's been sorted, OP.

Wish they'd make the bloody thing in an accessible version. But I wouldn't expect anything like sense from bloody Capita.

Viviennemary · 16/10/2020 22:26

Glad to hear it's been sorted out.

Rockbird · 17/10/2020 08:15

It is a horrible set up. My eyesight is rubbish and even to get a phone number to call a parent I have to almost press my nose to the screen to make out the tiny numbers.

Well, obviously, nobody who has ever worked in education has ever had a disability or needed glasses - we should probably all resign immediately in favour of people who can see a font half the size of the standard MN display one...not sure where they'll find enough staff to fill 21,000 state and 70-odd-000 private schools, though.

Phone numbers are tough, but I find reading off the ULNs/UCIs even harder - the usual way I get around it is to go in as if to amend them, copy, paste and then enlarge. It's a ridiculous waste of time, as trying to navigate around the system for most things is.

Ugh. It's clunky almost to the level of being unusable. But you still have to use it.
