His wife seems a nice, level headed sort, apart from running in hiking boots. The lawnmower was probably on offer as it's end of season. She's a gardener so I'd say it's a "sorry for the extramarital shag" gift from him to her. The NF "Rebecca" is dreadful. Both leads woefully miscast, wooden acting, and it seemed to think it was a twee romance rather than a Gothic horror. Armie Hammer was way too young and too hunky to be Max De Winter. I normally hate it when middle aged men are paired with pretty young women on screen but the age and power differential here is crucial to understanding the characters. And Kirsten Scott Thomas was nowhere near terrifying enough to be Danvers - she looked like a chic 1940s secretary, not this gloomy, shadowy figure always lingering in unlit corners

Excellent summary, icedpurple. What a shame that the film traduces the subtleties of the original book.

I’m honestly struggling to think of a comparable case of someone who was previous fairly low key setting their entire life on fire in such a tawdry and mockable way.

There’s something odd going on, but I’m buggered if I can work out what it is 🤷‍♀️

They would have done a statement to that effect though in that case, would have said "the pictures taken of myself and my costar in Rome have been taken completely out of context. A lunch with our shared manager and sightseeing in a beautiful city has been spun by the press into tabloid fodder. My wife and I remain dedicated to each other and to our children. Surely Dom didn't really leave a thumbs down review in the name of Dominic shortly after a Mail story, with pictures of him getting it off the vehicle? I think it's a journalist who wanted to rile Lawnmower Man into a story. Payment on return sounds an honest mistake (well, to me) you'd maybe just assume 28 days. Why the paps are still persistently hanging around to the point of catching him in the bushes on his run though is indeed a bit mysterious.
