@H1978 ooh, may I ask what you use your cellar for now/how much it cost to do up?
Can’t remember the cost exactly as dh deals with all that and it was about 8 years ago. Ours divides into two parts at the bottom of the steps. The right hand side room has no windows and I use it as a pantry and it has a freezer.
The other side has a window, below ground level. I have a small kitchenware my tumble dryer underneath the worktop and in the corner we have the boiler and a water tank which is the same cupboard as the kitchen units. We have large extended family so I tend to use my downstairs to entertain as well.
Half this room is carpeted and the dcs have their games console/television/desk and bookshelf for all their school stuff.
I also had another larder cupboard built in an odd corner we had. This leads to another room at the back of the house which we made as a toy room for the dcs. We also had two small windows made for ventilation.
Our cellar is the same size as the house upstairs so there are four rooms in total as well as little cubby underneath the alley way we share with the neighbours. I use it for storing dcs baby stuff we don’t need anymore.
Our house is Victorian, built in 1889 so we kept a lot of the old features. We had the original fireplace restored down there and a lot of the stone work is exposed to keep with the feel of the house.
Sorry about the long post. Hope it makes some sense. I would advise to make it as damp proof as you can especially if it doesn’t have windows, as it can be a real problem with basements.
