I know this is unreasonable... husband sleeping.

Reasonably lighthearted... She says, curling her lip....

I often lie awake for hours.. I'm a very poor sleeper, tossing and turning.. too hot, busy legs, blah blah

But listening to him BREATHING does my head in 😡😡. In fact all the noises he makes in his sleep.. it's as bad as noisy eaters 😤

I know I'm a grumpy old bag so no need to point out the fact it's just envy....

( no point to this thread whatsoever... just so BORED)

@Oodlesofnoodles20 haha that made me giggle. My dh snores/makes annoying noises if he has had a drink so I nudge him, kick him and tell him to stop that works.

thesoundofthepolice · 08/10/2020 07:27

Earplugs, honestly I'd be divorced or jailed for murder without them.

My DH just breathes funny, it's like he's really exaggerating his breathing and showing off he's sleeping Smile

Since using earplugs it's bliss. I can still hear my alarms and the creaky floor boards incase a burglar tries to get me but I can't hear the big sighs/funny noises he makes

rwalker · 08/10/2020 07:28

Separate quilts were a game changer. Experiment with earplug took a few till found the right ones

Zeitgei5t · 08/10/2020 07:43

I'm not sure how men can breathe so loud. I've got a Bluetooth headband thing which I play rain sounds through.
Sometimes he complains that it's too loud. Yes that's how loud it has to be to BLOCK YOU OUT!!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/10/2020 08:02

I wear a Bluetooth sleeping mask overnight (make sure the buttons are in the middle so you don't accidentally press them when laying on your side) and listen to a 10 hour YouTube video of rain and thunder. Although it doesn't block out any of dh's noises it does give me something else to listen to and if I fall asleep before him (which hardly ever happens) he doesn't wake me up.

LunaNorth · 08/10/2020 08:05

My Bluetooth sleep mask is one of the first things I’d rescue if my house burnt down.

Download the Calm app and listen to a sleep story. Bliss.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/10/2020 08:08

@justgeton

Mine clicks... every breath in makes a clicky noise at the back of his throat... frankly I could run him through.... 😂
Dh does this. He breathes in through his mouth and out through his nose and makes a clicking noise on the crossover. It does my head in so much!
marigoldsmarigolds · 08/10/2020 08:19

Luna which Bluetooth mask do you use? I had a quick look on Amazon but there are a few! I sleep on my side - will this affect use? I too live with a snorer/sneezer/breather/snorter/cougher. Thanks

I knowy you asked someone else but I have this: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07DLSR641?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I usually get 2 nights out of it before having to charge it. The buttons are in the middle so I don't accidentally press them when laying on my side. The only problem is that I can sometimes feel the little wires inside it so have to try to move them out of the way.

Knittedfairies · 08/10/2020 09:17

Separate rooms. Mine makes the sound of a slightly defective vintage Ascot water heater.

spottygymbag · 08/10/2020 09:51

Highly recommend the Bose noise canceling ear plug style head phones. Made for this kind of thing with a variety of white noises to match the pitch of you DH's breathing. They're one of the reasons we're still married 😂

BoyTree · 08/10/2020 10:28

Have you tried a pillow with a speaker in it? It's been my saviour - something comforting to listen to, but nothing in or on my ears to be uncomfortable or stop me hearing the kids!

Zaphodsotherhead · 08/10/2020 10:31

Oh, incidentally, when they wake in the morning and stare at you as you sit there beary eyed and irritated, if they open their mouth and say 'oh, I've tossed and turned all night, haven't slept at all, go and make me a coffee, would you?' you are actually, legally, allowed to kill them.

I have to go up steps to my patio, as a result.

justgeton · 08/10/2020 10:32

@Moonshinemisses

My Dh is a mouth breather.....I'm going to leave that there incase I ever need a solid defense. YANBU

I'd support your defence

Haha

How many husbands have you got under there?

Apparently my husband hardly slept at all last night.. 🧐

Bed time stories on podcasts. Love them. I can’t switch off when I go to bed but when I listen to these I’m gone.

I listen to sleep cove Grin

movingonup20 · 08/10/2020 10:45

Try podcasts. In our time I particularly recommend as it's mostly so boring I drift back to sleep straight away

marigoldsmarigolds · 08/10/2020 10:49

Two zero thank you - I will have a go. I've tried to train myself to sleep through but the noise GrinConfused

SWnewstart · 08/10/2020 10:51

I share the pain of everyone on here. Two quick questions:

  1. The recommended Bose headphones seem to be costing over £200, simply can't afford that - less expensive recommendations anyone?
  2. DP gets upset when I move to spare room (sometimes I do snore lightly but he manages to sleep through) so then I have to suffer the "poor me, feel neglected, you don't fancy me, I just want to snuggle" comments! Am I alone in dealing with this as well as the snoring? Which I have actually recorded on phone as evidence Smile.

Oh god - I feel you! The worst for me (though thank god we're in local lockdown so he can't do this right now!) is when he goes round to next door for some drinks on a Friday/Saturday night. I go to bed at 11ish, he'll be out until maybe 2, which is fine as it's only next door. But he comes home, turns the bedroom light on (it's ridiculously bright - which I like, but not at 2am), gets undressed noisily, starts telling me how much he loves me .. so I'm thoroughly awake. Then within 2 seconds of being in bed he's snoring horrifically, and I'm lying there unable to get back to sleep. I could happy stab him at that point :)).
allthewaterinthetap · 08/10/2020 15:43

The only male I will sleep in bed with is my son. His father can be annoyingly noisy by himself!

LunaNorth · 08/10/2020 16:12

Yep, that’s the same one I use. Marvellous.

BasKaro · 08/10/2020 16:39

ProperVexed · 08/10/2020 19:36

@Oodlesofnoodles20 I sincerely believe that you could start a new business and be gainfully employed for many years. How much would you charge?

forgetthehousework · 08/10/2020 19:50

I'm fairly sure that I snore so I try not to complain about the noises DH makes, but omg, his restless legs! I'm just dropping off to sleep and there they go, strong enough to actually make the mattress bounce. Fortunately not every night or I'd be forced to weight them down or something.
