Would be glad of some company and the odd pep talk, if anyone would like to join me.

@Autumngoldleaf I'm not sure what you tried, but 0% wine is pretty bad. I used to drink a lot of wine. A LOT. But I loved the taste, I didnt drink to get drunk. If they made a 0% one that actually tasted like it, I'd never drink again.
Also, Nosecco and Freixenet are both lovely, but they're not exactly like prosecco. But the longer you go without, the more the fake stuff does the trick, if that makes sense.
I've not had prosecco for 3 or 4 months, and can't really remember how it tastes now. I have 0% Freixenet 2 or 3 times a week, and love it.

Even though it’s only a Tuesday, I’ve just broken open a bottle of mint and lime cordial and sparkling water. How have I not tried this before, it’s delicious. I could happily drink this as a cocktail.

I’m ashamed to say I fell off the wagon for two days, but back on it again last night. I had a Belvoir lime cordial with tonic - quite refreshing.

SpanishFly · 14/10/2020 10:06

@TazMac I'm glad you like it- it's exactly like a mojito 😍

Gotthetshirt23 · 14/10/2020 11:09

Like the sound of the lime and mint / water !
Sleep seems to be getting better / ish and resting heart rate lower however I am exercising more and eating a bit healthier....

SpanishFly · 14/10/2020 11:50

When I did stoptember I noticed the same - that I also got more done around the house and ate a bit better. So I honestly feel like alcohol has many bad habits associated with it - makes me more sluggish, but also once I open a bottle, I just sit down for the evening and give up for the night, then open crisps. I found it all quite interesting to see how habits changed without any additional effort.

TazMac · 15/10/2020 18:44

Think I’m going to have to bulk buy the lime and mint cordial, it’s really addictive 😁.

I find I do more round the house too, I get up earlier on a Saturday and Sunday and feel brighter (rather than sluggish and grumpy) and have the time to tidy up or put the washing away.

My recent discovery is online scrabble though, I’m getting really into it!

I enjoy the fact that I actually remember what's going on in dramas I'm watching (rather than having to rewind them because I've missed some key things by being tipsy).

2me2u2u2me · 15/10/2020 21:40

I’m on it too, I’m also doing carb free October as I want to lose a few pounds, some good suggestions here of replacement drinks, I’ve had a few 0% beers, definitely going to try the lime and mint sounds yummy 😋

I’m with @Dugee Great that I’m managing to get through programmes without falling asleep and not remembering what’s happened cos I’m tiddly Grin

TazMac · 15/10/2020 22:16

I’ve got some elderflower and low cal fever tree to try at the weekend, roll on Friday night...

We’re part way through Brave New World (and I can remember where we are up to as well Smile).

@Gotthetshirt23

I’m wondering if you are perhaps a lighter sleeper than you realised. I discovered quies earplugs a few years ago and I sleep really well now. If I run out or forget to put them in, I get woken up a lot by random house noises.

OP posts:
Gotthetshirt23 · 15/10/2020 22:51

@TazMac
Possibly, have just googled those , I do have the sponge type ones that you twist first .
I'm on call a couple of evenings every other month, would I still hear the phone with the quies ones ?

TazMac · 16/10/2020 07:54

@Gotthetshirt23

I still hear my alarm. They just block out house noises.

Gotthetshirt23 · 16/10/2020 09:58

@TazMac
Foam , silicon or wax ?
Sorry !

TazMac · 16/10/2020 10:54

I use the wax ones.

OP posts:
Wildernesstips · 16/10/2020 18:19

Oh yes, I use earplugs too. Sleep is much improved.

I agree, I can actually keep track of dramas too - I can’t believe I watched Dark whilst I was drinking (so complicated).

Sparkling water with raspberry cordial tonight. Also listening to Unexpected Joy of Being Sober.

TazMac · 16/10/2020 18:22

I’m going to do hair wash, facial, nails and then watch a film and try out the elderflower cordial with fever tree tonic. A no gin and tonic I guess!

Dugee · 16/10/2020 18:35

Well we're mid month, now is the point when I usually get cravings. I'm ok at the moment, quite happy with my box of chocolates to look forward to later (it's a small box!).

Might start watching Ratched, has anyone seen it?

Reedwarbler · 16/10/2020 18:54

Tbh, fuck that. The world is going to shit, I can't see my family and my life is falling apart. And I'm supposed to give up booze as well? Not bloody likely.

Dugee · 16/10/2020 18:59

@Reedwarbler

This is a thread for those of us, who have decided for ourselves, that we would like to have a month off booze.

Gotthetshirt23 · 17/10/2020 11:01

Ear plugs ordered , have looked at sleep pattern and I'm getting over 6 hours a night for 2 weeks now , often used to wake around 0400 for a few hours and that's not happened recently.
Have lime / mint to try and often happy with a tonic with ice anyway .
Resting hr under 60 for the last few weeks also.

Hope everyone is doing well too ?

TazMac · 17/10/2020 16:47

Hope the earplugs work @Gotthetshirt23

We have got cream cakes for after dinner, so I’m looking forward to those instead of booze.

I’m liking the elderflower and low cal fever tree too. It’s not quite like a g&t but near enough.

OP posts:
TazMac · 17/10/2020 16:50

@Reedwarbler

No one is telling you that you have to give up booze. We’re just a group of posters who are having an alcohol break for a month (or more). We’re harmlessly chatting about nice things to eat and drink, things to do instead of drinking and giving each other a bit of support.

Dugee · 17/10/2020 18:06

I've got some nosecco chilling in the fridge. Went out for quite a big walk today so feeling to proud of myself to drink. Long may this feeling continue Smile

Gotthetshirt23 · 18/10/2020 09:38

Going to look for nosecco today
Getting very vivid dreams at the moment , is anyone else ?
