Don't know how to get through tomorrow

Several months ago my lovely partner turned yellow and, long story short, on Friday we were told he has cancer. Tomorrow we go to the hospital to find out what the plan is. We know that the cancer is in his pancreas (or bile duct, his CNS said pancreas but Macmillan said he'd been referred with bile duct cancer). I know the long term prognosis is poor and I am shit scared. How do we face tomorrow?

I'm very sorry, you will be feeling devastated. Do you know about the thread for partners of seriously ill people, in health/life-limiting illness/still the storm?

Any news like this comes as a shock even if you were expecting it. You will get through because you are strong and because others will look to you for comfort.

What a dreadful day for you both x

As far as treatment goes, does it make any difference if it's from BD or the P?

Did they say when they could do the shipper & start the Chemo?

We'll all be here to hold your hands through this next year xx

Bastard cancer.

So sorry to read this, OP.

I would say prepare any questions in writing, as your mind may go blank. Record the consultation. Get the number of who to call if you have further questions after you have got home. Ask if they have a support centre in the hospital, and use it if they do - they support families as well as the person receiving treatment.

Remember your own support needs. I hope that you are able to call on lots of supportive people.

MrsPerfect12 · 30/09/2020 23:05

So sorry you're both going through this. Flowers wishing you the best of outcomes for the year ahead.

ScarMatty · 30/09/2020 23:23

I'm so sorry Thanks

IHateCoronavirus · 01/10/2020 05:21

I’m so sorry for you both Flowers Have you decided which option you will go for?

bloodywhitecat · 01/10/2020 05:33

He's going for the Whipple's, he made the decision there and then as there was nothing to discuss really. The surgery comes first then the chemo if he needs it once they have the results back from microbiology (I think that's what the surgeon meant when he was talking us through it all).

AbbieFB · 01/10/2020 05:44

I was thinking of you yesterday. I’m so sorry that the news wasn’t more positive.

madamy · 01/10/2020 06:20

Sorry you're going through this. Yes, I'm a cancer nurse and the lab (histopathology) will be able to look at the tumor in more detail after it's removed which will help the Oncologist decide which chemo is best. Wishing you all the best.
