Inspired by the loo brush thread I'll start with this

Things that were questionably 'fashionable'

Avocado bathroom suits.

nosswith · 25/09/2020 07:32

Were?

How about socks and sandals (so called 'sliders')?

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 25/09/2020 07:38

^Shellsuits in the late 80s.*

Oh yes, this. They were hideous but I had two. They were always in the most unflattering garish colours. I had one in splatters of yellow, pink and turquoise. Not surprising that they haven't ever made a comeback!

Also weird - pink and blue rinsed hair, sported by nearly every woman over 65 when I was a child in the 80s.

My elder sister's long, Afghan coat. I loved that goat and never even minded the string smell of goat when they got wet.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 25/09/2020 08:40

Those ruched blinds that trapped dust and dirt.

RickOShay · 25/09/2020 08:40

I still love batwing jumpers Grin

MsEllany · 25/09/2020 09:48

Me too @RickOShay. I’d be happy if all my jumpers were batwing and off the shoulder Grin

Chiffon Shirts anyone?
I remember having a black chiffon shirt with red roses on which I wore with red jeans, my best friend had a red chiffon shirt with black roses and black jeans.
We thought we were so cool, we must've looked ridiculous!

I also remember wearing babydoll nighties from the nightwear section at BHS as daywear, usually with knee high socks Confused and also squeezing myself into Barbie and Polly Pocket t-shirts from the kids section.

Floating candles sitting in a bowl of water with those glass pebble things in. And if you didn't change the water often enough, it went all scummy.

Bubble lamps. Same problem with the scummy water.

Ponchos.

Dungarees, but you wore the top part hanging down.

Inflatable chairs.

A jacket that ended no lower than your bottom rib. Because who needs their abdomen to be warm?

And yeah, those long and hugely flared jeans that soaked up entire puddles on rainy days so that you'd have lovely, cold, wet ankles as you trailed round the shops.

UGG boots. You could always tell if someone wearing uggs was coming up behind you because you could just hear SCUFF SCUFF SCUFF SCUFF as there's something about those boots that means you can't lift your feet properly.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 25/09/2020 11:37

Mermaids.

woodhill · 25/09/2020 11:41

These belts over your top!
Deidre in Corrie always had that look😊

Shell suits were everywhere weren't they!!

I never had one. Now I could claim it was because I so with it I recognised they were in fact horrible but the reality is, I had a overwhelming fear of it melting into my skin.

As you do!!

x2boys · 25/09/2020 11:57

As an 80,s teenager loads, perms everyone had one male and female,Ra Ra skirts, puff ball skirts ,peddle pushers , sovereign rings ,jelly shoes and bags ,loads more .

perfumeistooexpensive · 25/09/2020 12:28

Vile wide legged jeans. Flapping in the wind, soaking up the rain and very unflattering. Now they are in the shops again. Nobody who wore them first time round will wear them.

midsomermurderess · 25/09/2020 12:33

Coffee. Christ, it's just a drink, there's even a thread going over pages right now , well I like, this, well I like that. To be defined by a bloody drink.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 25/09/2020 12:54

Platform trainers. The stupidest fashion item ever. Nearly sprained my ankle...

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/09/2020 13:20

Long gypsy skirts I'd forgotten them! 2004/5 they were everywhere, but you had to be ultra skinny because you needed to wear them with the smallest, tiniest vest

beguilingeyes · 25/09/2020 13:50

God..chiffon shirts...with a vest/camisole underneath...I loved those.

longwayoff · 25/09/2020 14:03

Slugbrows and fishlips. Makes all women look like female impersonators. Passing soon, hopefully.

beguilingeyes · 25/09/2020 14:04

strappy dresses with t-shirts underneath..they were everywhere for a while
