Inspired by the loo brush thread I'll start with this

Things that were questionably 'fashionable'

Aren’t most things we like/do/wear going to become something we look back on and cringe at? Before the inevitability come back in 10-20 years down the line Grin

HunkyPunk · 24/09/2020 23:41

Platform soles in the 70's. Some of them were huuuge! I remember someone at a school disco falling off hers and injuring her ankle.

BumbleBee5w · 24/09/2020 23:41

Borders on walls

SephrinaX · 24/09/2020 23:42

@BumbleBee5w

MASSIVE quiffs . Shit ton of hairspray and then hair dry while you try and get it as high as possible (early to mid 90s - anyone else?)
I miss quiffs!
GymSloth · 24/09/2020 23:43

Embroidered waistcoats. I thought I looked the business in mine. I look back at photos now and I look like a trainee magician.

Grin This has made me laugh so much! I loved my waistcoat, but looking back I do wonder why.

Yes! I showed a photo of younger me to my kids the the other day and they laughed their heads off at my quiff!

Hair mascara. So crusty

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/09/2020 23:48

His and hers names on a blue strip ar the top of the windscreen of your car.

Blue mascara.

Those little rats tails at the back of someone's short hair do.

The 70s curly perm!

I hope those hideous ear extender things, man buns, fake lips, and the trowelled on make-up of today all go out of fashion sooner rather than later.

MsEllany · 24/09/2020 23:51

The All Saints (the girl band!) fashion of combat trousers and a crop top, complete with hair so straight and lank preferably with to sun-in strips of blond at the front. Concealer lips and glitter mascara. Maybe a skirt over the combat trousers because why the hell not?! Layering is cool, y'all Grin

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 24/09/2020 23:56

All the grey it’s so dreary

Ugg boots

Sequinned jeans. I had a pair that were bootlegged they looked like a bad Elvis Las Vegas outfit I thought I looked wonderful. I would wear body glitter too just to add a bit more sparkle Confused

The pixie shoes popular late 90’s. The toe would slightly curl up, sometimes they were clogs (I never had a pair)

DuaneBenziesvoice · 25/09/2020 00:04

Wearing a thin scarf with tassels as a belt.
Teeny tiny rucksacks
Swag and tail curtains

BrigitsBigKnickers · 25/09/2020 00:09

Ra ra skirts
Leg warmers
Padded shoulders that looked like the hanger had been left in there!
Flicked fringes held in place with a ton of hairspray
Long cheese cloth Indian skirts with little bells attached
New romantic Ruffled shirts and sleeves

SephrinaX · 25/09/2020 00:19

These belts over your top!

mrwalkensir · 25/09/2020 00:22

grey paint, grey fabric, grey cladding...

SephrinaX · 25/09/2020 00:23

Also having the smallest mobile possible in the early 2000s, so impractical!

JustAnotherMNUserPassing · 25/09/2020 00:24

Crocs, ugh Confused

I also went through this phase and also owned a knitted waistcoat at one stage, it was from Sweater Shop, again, I thought I was the business! Grin
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/09/2020 00:41

Chiffon Shirts anyone? Grin

joystir59 · 25/09/2020 00:47

Wet-look platform boots and shoes. 1970s

ifIwerenotanandroid · 25/09/2020 00:58

Tiled splashbacks in kitchens where the tiles are all different colours & placed at random. I'm a very visual person & it's just over-stimulating.

I get frazzled easily when I'm cooking, so I need a calming background. I had gorgeous, softly metallic glass splashbacks put in a few years ago & I still love them. Soothing yet depthy. Ignorable but when I do consider them, I love them.

Sod's Law says I'll smash one of the bloody things tomorrow.

Toilenstripes · 25/09/2020 01:00

Painting on velvet, see black matador

MrsDeltaB · 25/09/2020 01:16

Chiffon shirts? Yes! I had a stunning coloured one with black chiffon sleeves. I was the bees gonads!

The plastic perm with the high front bump.

Joe Bloggs jeans. BK Knights trainers, I still remember the shame of Pony High Tops.

TenShortStories · 25/09/2020 01:29

From the late 90s:

Hair scraped back into a high bun, except for 2 long strands that hang down either side of your face. All hairsprayed to within an inch of its life so that even the long strands are stiff and can be snapped in half. Then at least 3 different coloured scrunchies around the bun in layers.

FelicityBeedle · 25/09/2020 01:42

2012ish, those plastic bracelets with pictures of the Catholic saints on. I distinctly remember a few of the ‘Cool’ Muslim girls at school having them

frogface69 · 25/09/2020 01:47

Gypsy skirts with a long, frilly petticoat showing at the bottom.
V neck jumpers worn back to front with knotted long strands of pearls, also falling down the back the back. Knickerbockers and pie crust collars. Lady Di was our fashion idol.
Batwing jumpers.
Massive glasses frames.
Mullets. With either spikes, or permed hair on top.
I loved my purdey haircut.
