Wine and Cake Delivery

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 19:21

I want to send my friend a hamper/box gift delivery that just has wine and cake in it. Nothing else. It’s to tie in with a movie reference, I am also getting her the screenplay.

She now lives 300 miles away, so I can’t do it myself.

I can find services to deliver wine; wine and cheese; Prosecco and chocolate and much bigger hampers, but to have the significance I want it to, I just want “Cake, and the finest wines known to humanity”.

Anyone know anywhere I can order this combo?

Can you buy the wine and cake yourself and send it via courier?

RaspberryToupee · 16/09/2020 20:03

Google to see if there are any local delis near your friend!

Our local deli does wine and cake deliveries! (It was very essential at the beginning of lockdown!) You’re more likely to be able to personalise the wine, cake and message then.

@Xiaoxiong

I'd look for a naice deli near her and ask them to put a hamper up to your specifications. We have one on our high street that will do anything you like - my godmother rang them and had a cheese hamper put together with crackers, grapes and berries for my mum's birthday and they delivered the morning of her birthday.
This is an excellent idea.

Perhaps a hare? Here, hare here.

Antifreeze? Deep heat? Cider? Wellington boots? Drugs? The list is endless I tell you!

I'll stop now.

Dillo10 · 16/09/2020 20:12

Nothing to contribute and no idea what Withnail is (sorry!) but just want to say how lovely this thread is, so many people willing to help! Smile

Damn I was really really hoping that the Oxford hamper company would have one, but they've failed on the cake Grin

Londonmummy66 · 16/09/2020 20:17

Email these guys and they'd do it for you - I used them for a delivery and it was very well received.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but why not get a box, a couple of bottles of wine, a boxed supermarket cake (Waitrose or M&S) and a ton of bubble wrap, and pack it all up and have it delivered by courier? This way you could wrap and put the screenplay in the box too.

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 20:27

You lot are excellent, thank you! I’m liking the local deli idea, in fact I said to DH last night “if only (name of our local naice farm shop - tea rooms - off licence ) delivered nationally”.

I’m going to do some serious googling and check out the suggestions. I’ll left you know how I get on. Not sure I’ll manage the Camberwell Carrot!

@Dillo10, Withnail and I is a cult film from 1989. It stars Richard E. Grant, Paul McGann and Richard Griffiths. It's probably an acquired taste but those of us who like it tend to be a bit obsessive about it. It might be available on FilmFour or Channel Four.

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 20:31

@mrsm43s - I’d like to do that, and would make a cake, but I have more than once taken delivery of a slightly soggy box containing damp bubble wrap and broken glass. I’d rather leave the wine transport to professionals.

I was going to suggest Slattery but I've been beaten to it

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 20:45

@AdaColeman

Send her an Ocado delivery of the cake and wine of your choice, minimum spend £40 plus delivery. Should have a good choice of fine wine, and a selection of cakes.
I can’t be certain when she’ll be in, without going anti-socially late. Also, I’ve never bern able to set up an Ocado account because they don’t believe that my postcode matches my address, no matter how much proof I send them! I could use my Tesco account, but it’s a 50th birthday. The wrapping needs to be a bit fancier!!

TheSpottedZebra · 16/09/2020 20:56

Depending on spend, couldn't you just do a supermarket delivery of wine and cake, and have it sent to that address?

TheSpottedZebra · 16/09/2020 20:58

What? All those posts really were not there when I posted.
Is there a glitch in the matrix ? Wrong film I know...

iklboo · 16/09/2020 20:58

I can vouch for Slattery's. This was my 50th birthday cake.

Obsessed with that film as a teen. Think i had "I'll have cake and fine wine. The finest wines known to humanity" as my msn screen name at one point.

Yes. That dates me.
I am a horrific reliquary of random 90s pop culture quotes and they'll pop up without invitation at the slightest prompt. I mortified my 8 year old by launching into a rendition of the spice girls outside school when he told me to "stop right now".

I also grew up in Richmond and was fortunate enough to encounter one Richard E. on a walk one evening, whereupon myself and my equally enebriated 17 year old cohort followed him along the road bellowing Withnail quotes at him. Poor bloke. I am suitably ashamed now but at the time it absolutely made my year.

Sorry for derail. Happy Times. Sigh.

Dammit. Repository.
Brain fart.
My post was also supposed to quote whoever commented on my quick identification but technology hates me today.

It was me!

Richard E is teetotal as well Grin. I think he's allergic to alcohol, but they made him get drunk once before they filmed the boozy scenes in W&I 🤓.

I think we might be the same vintage @Nosnogginginthekitchen! I remember Stop Right Now and even knew the dance moves Blush.

snappyoldfart · 16/09/2020 21:59

I'm not far away from Portsmouth, so could do a Waitrose shop and pop it on her doorstep?

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2020 22:05

I love all the memories and nostalgia this thread is stiring up. Me and the birthday girl were both at a large northern university in the early 90s and the only girls in the dept (fortunately we got on!) and already familiar with the film when we met. We went on a field trip which involved a break in Penrith, where we walked into a tea shop and I said the “finest wines” quote. The waitress rolled her eyes, but we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever done. We were bookish 20 year olds, it probably was.
