Will your child's secondary school be having PE lessons?

My child's secondary school has said that PE lessons will be theory based for the foreseeable future.

I appreciate that the logistics of it must be difficult but hoped that he might get some sort of physical activity during school hours seeing as he won't get much opportunity during the 2 half an hour recesses and all school run after school activities are also cancelled for the foreseeable.

So has your child's secondary school cancelled practical PE lessons?

Yes - kids have to go to school in PE kit as they can't clean the changing rooms between lessons but when the school first shared the plans in July it was clear that they value PE. Besides, all the kids doing GCSE PE can't do theory all the time....

ZeroFuchsGiven · 01/09/2020 09:50

Ours are still doing PE but the changing rooms will not be open. On days of PE they have to go to school in their kit.

dementedpixie · 01/09/2020 09:51

My kids go in with PE kit on when its a PE day (scotland)

PE lessons still on weekly here, double period once a week. In Glasgow Scotland.

Deliqueen · 01/09/2020 09:53

Yes. Ours have to go to school in their kit on PE days. They even need raincoat for wet days! I'm all for it. They need that physical activity.

halcyondays · 01/09/2020 09:57

Yes, go to school in PE kit on PE days

ZenZebra · 01/09/2020 09:59

PE lessons are still happening.

DD has to wear her PE kit to school on PE day.

TeenPlusTwenties · 01/09/2020 10:56

Yes. Wear PE kit to school on PE days.

TheTideIsTurning · 01/09/2020 11:00

Hmm. Don't know why my son's school thinks it's not possible. I will definitely be making enquiries.

Yes, and wear PE kit to school on those days. They can wear any plain blue, black, grey joggers and hoodie with it on those days (there is a uniform hoodie and joggers, but no one buys them unless they play in a school team)

MadameBlobby · 01/09/2020 11:01

Yes they are all outside

iVampire · 01/09/2020 11:07

Yes - PE is all outdoors games until at least half term, and they are to wear PE kit the whole day (and must wear tracksuit bottoms when not in the actual lesson)

There will be some squad training for teams, but no info yet on arrangements for that. No fixtures for the foreseeable, and following each sport’s governing body’s procedures for return

BearSoFair · 01/09/2020 12:50

Yes to lessons, no word on whether it'll be inside or outdoors but they have to wear their PE kit all day as they won't be able to access the changing rooms.

yomellamoHelly · 01/09/2020 12:52

Like everyone else. They wear their PE kit all day as the changing rooms will be shut. (2 different schools.) Am thinking we might lose less stuff this year.

WitchDancer · 01/09/2020 12:55

Another one here that has to wear their kit on the day of PE. I have got plain black track suits to wear over the top and am keeping my fingers crossed they are allowed to wear them.

FourEyesGood · 01/09/2020 13:01

Like PPs, they’ll be having PE lessons, wearing their PE kit all day so they don’t need to change.

RedCatBlueCat · 01/09/2020 13:09

Yes. No changing happening, and outside as much as possible, but weve been told PE is happening.
Same at primary.

DebbieFiderer · 01/09/2020 13:12

Still happening, non contact only, not been told that they need to wear PE kit all day though

JustCallMeGriffin · 01/09/2020 13:29

I have absolutely no idea - the school haven't confirmed one way or another.

I'm not overly worried as DD has a 2 mile walk each way to school and plays football so missing 2 hours of PE isn't a massive concern to us.

Marmite27 · 01/09/2020 13:33

What happens if they get soaked in pe?

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/09/2020 13:34

Yes, go in PE kits but can get changed back afterwards. No full contact rugby

GreyishDays · 01/09/2020 13:35

@Marmite27

What happens if they get soaked in pe?
Our primary school have to take in a change of clothes for PE days in case this happens.
Truzza · 01/09/2020 13:36

All pe across all years is going ahead, they have to wear sports kit to school. Which obviously they are all very happy about

eddiemairswife · 01/09/2020 13:40

I'm waiting for all the complaints about children having to spend all day in their sweaty PE kit.

Swiftnicola · 01/09/2020 13:42

Marmite - my dd sat in her wet clothes with the windows open all day (Pe first thing) She’s started taking spare clothes in her bag incase that happens again. Their Pe lessons seem a lot more structured this year - they’re doing athletics which they haven’t really done before- it’s always been football etc.
