Will your child's secondary school be having PE lessons?

My child's secondary school has said that PE lessons will be theory based for the foreseeable future.

I appreciate that the logistics of it must be difficult but hoped that he might get some sort of physical activity during school hours seeing as he won't get much opportunity during the 2 half an hour recesses and all school run after school activities are also cancelled for the foreseeable.

So has your child's secondary school cancelled practical PE lessons?

Yes and they will clean the facilities in between groups using them.

FunnysInLaJardin · 01/09/2020 13:49

Yes, and have to wear PE kit to school, which I am most happy about.

Even though DS1 is going into yr10 he still has an amazing propensity to lose stuff!

itsgettingweird · 01/09/2020 13:54

My son has just finished.

Some of my friends have kids still in school.

There are variations.

School 1: PE outside only. Kids to go in PE but also have to wear their blazers. They must wear the shorts kit too!

2: years 7-9 doing PE as normal. He 10 just once a week and other session is used for catch up/revision/ private study to try and get ahead in case of lockdowns etc. Yr 11 aren't doing PE (unless it's gcse) and over 3 weeks the sessions will be used for English, maths and science catch up. All PE outdoors.

3: all years doing PE. Go in any bottoms and school logo PE top. Jumper or hoody can be work in navy or black and no emblems/ cartoons etc. Haven't said if indoors or out by friend assumes out due to clothing.

4: all years doing PE. Pupils get a choice of 5 activities and must do that activity all half term as they are in bubbles for that session. They are offering indoor activities too but have state of the art sports hall that's fairly new with fitness suite.

I agree they need something. It's really good for MH and do concentration to do exercise.

Yes to PE

All outdoors & still using changing rooms

(All Windows open too - have had 2 DC with colds already - it's not even Autumn yet!)

Meredusoleil · 01/09/2020 14:07

Yes to PE at secondary. Children to wear their PE kit into school and bring uniform to change into in case they get wet or muddy.

Not sure about how the blazer fits in there. Nor how dd1 is meant to wear amhee skort for indoor PE if it's cold in winter. Tracksuit bottoms on top might look/feel a bit strange 🤔

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 01/09/2020 14:20

Y10 and Y8, doing PE as normal - changing before and after, no contact athletics, tennis & cricket this term instead of their usual full contact rugby, to be reviewed after half term.

gigglingHyena · 01/09/2020 14:22

Ours have said they'll be doing the usual summer stuff, athletics and outdoor training where there is less need to share equipment. There's limited space outdoors do I'm anticipating there will be a fair amount of cross country running and orienteering which they do in the local woods.

If the weather is too bad they will do theory indoors, but in normal times it takes a lot before they move PE inside so at least through autumn I'd expect it yo carry on.

itsgettingweird · 01/09/2020 17:17

I think cross country and running and sprinting is probably what the kids need right now.

Good fitness stuff with stretching and improving lung capacity.

crankysaurus · 01/09/2020 17:26

Yes, in school in PE kit with school uniform in their bag in case they get muddy/wet.

I pity the teacher who has a bunch of sweaty teens in their kit last class lesson of the day, I bet they'll be glad to have the windows open.

Verite1 · 01/09/2020 17:27

My sons school not doing PE. I’m not sure why. Think possibly a space issue?

Yawningyawning · 01/09/2020 17:35

Yes we’ve are, PE kit all day. No idea what they’re doing

netflixismysidehustle · 01/09/2020 18:45

PE lessons are outdoors in all weathers now and no changing room so kids come to school in PE Kit, change into football boots for the lessons then use a towel and change shoes back afterwards

MrsJBaptiste · 01/09/2020 20:02

No. I wish they were, DS is over the moon 😑

JeffVaderneedsatray · 01/09/2020 21:10

Yes, they will go in in PE kit on PE day. DD is a joggers refusnik so she's going to have cold legs!

Our Primary school is also doing PE - we had a discussion in our inset this morning about how important physical activity was. I suspect we will be doing a Daily Mile as well and using Go Noodle.

georgeggg · 01/09/2020 21:18

Yes ours is also wear the PE kit all day.

LilyPond2 · 01/09/2020 21:36

PE lessons going ahead. Kids told to wear PE kit to school on days when they have PE lessons.

wfh2020 · 01/09/2020 21:57

Extra spaces and time identified for changing and PE will be outdoors as much as possible. PE felt to be vital to well-being.
