Is there such a thing as a nice stuffed marrow recipe?

I have marrow, I have mince. I'd like it to be reasonably healthy, and also nice. Impossible? Please share a recipe or link if you can!

I do remember my mother cooking this many years ago (she's dead now). I think this was a real experiment for her.
The mince stuffing was fine; the marrow totally tasteless.
I am sure there are some really nice recipes somewhere?

Tootletum · 28/08/2020 16:35

Following. We have marrow disasters as our stupid courgette plants keep producing hidden gems!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/08/2020 16:36

Fairly sure Deirdre had one...

If there is I haven't found it.

Yellowcar2 · 28/08/2020 16:37

I'm sorry OP I don't think there is!

ImFree2doasiwant · 28/08/2020 16:37

I think it may be wishful thinking. Grin

Yes, my 15 yr old made a lovely one this week. I'll try to post a link.

Morfin · 28/08/2020 16:40

Yes, brown off onions, add mince. Once brown add diced peppers, celery, mushrooms, and mixed herbs. Add passata and tinned tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce. Pick up marrow and put it in food waste. Boil pasta instead.

Elouera · 28/08/2020 16:45

Could you add it to a veggie/chicken soup instead?

madcatladyforever · 28/08/2020 16:50

Pick up marrow and put it in food waste. Boil pasta instead.

Grin Exactly what I was thinking.

DespairingHomeowner · 28/08/2020 16:55

Similar to previous post, but covered in cheese sauce, serve with rice.
It’s v tasty (because it’s covered in melted cheese))

TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2020 17:01

By the time you've ponced about getting the marrow to a point of being flavoursome and not a blobby blob, you might as well sod off the marrow completely and make a very delicious spaghetti bolognaise.

RedDiamond · 28/08/2020 17:02

I always slice my marrows in half, scoop out all the seeds, then fill it with Chilli Con Carne, put it in the oven, covered in foil and cook slowly for about 1 hour. Lovely!

TSSDNCOP · 28/08/2020 17:03

I see several marrow haters have beaten me to the "serve anything BUT marrow" point.

FredaFrogspawn · 28/08/2020 17:07

I don’t get the marrow hate. It’s soft and delicate in flavour.

Mutabilis · 28/08/2020 17:08

We end up with a lot of marrows from the allotment and I've never managed to make stuffed marrow nice, some part of it is always wrong. Grilling/pan frying slices of it with butter, garlic, pepper, soya sauce and balsamic vinegar then baking in the oven with tomatoes and cheese can be tasty. DH often spiralizes it then fries it in the same way which tastes really nice too.

redpandaalert · 28/08/2020 17:12

Cover the mince in cheese sauce then it's edible and actually quite nice. Adding own sun blushed tomatoes to the mince a bonus - I have a massive glut of tomatoes too

AriettyHomily · 28/08/2020 17:16

No. You can't get away from the fact is a slimy wet marrow.

ImFree2doasiwant · 28/08/2020 17:19

See mince in cheese sauce sounds, unpleasant. I think ill make chilli. With rice.

I give up, photos not showing.

LaLaLandIsNoFun · 28/08/2020 17:40

Yes - replace the marrow with a snozzcumber.

EmmaStone · 28/08/2020 18:33

Last night I made a spag Bol sauce, kids had it with spaghetti, I scooped out the seeds and roasted the halved marrow with plenty of salt, pepper, oil and a splash of Lea & Perrins. Then served the sauce over the top. DH really likes it. I just think it's a useful way of using the marrow, but most of the flavour is in the sauce.

123rd · 28/08/2020 18:39

Make sure you zing the marrow( halved and deseeded) in the microwave until very soft.
I brown the mince , garlic, add flavoured rice, mushrooms, splash of Worcester sauce salt 'n'pepper. Squish it in the marrow.
Onto a grill pan with a splash of water in the pan. Cover with foil
Into the oven for a good hour. Take the foul
Off and chuck some cheese in for the last ten mins.
Delish

I have horrible memories from childhood of my Mums stuffed marrow attempts ...

JustAPassingFashion · 28/08/2020 18:47

I've never tried marrow but this thread has me intrigued. Am I missing out?

(Not an answer to your question OP, I'm sorry)
