if i were to change my name, what should it be changed to?

my name is a flower, and i hate it. i think partly because, as pathetic as it sounds, i have far more bad memories than good memories linked to it. if i changed it, it would be just before a new 'chapter' in my life, as cringey as that sounds, where of course there will be bad experiences too, but it will hopefully be filled with happy memories too! i've never felt 'connected' to my name either. i'm thinking something short, but very beautiful and feminine Smile any suggestions?

If you like Anna how about Amelia?

23trains · 20/08/2020 12:03

I just googled strong female names and got Audrey which means noble strength.

any chance you can say which flower? Maybe something that sounds similar but isn't that? Or similar meaning?

Ylfa · 20/08/2020 12:13

I’m completely out of name ideas but maybe an ancestor? Definitely changing mine soon, had it for fifty years and it’s like a joke. Plus it rhymes with an STI.

Whatusernamecanihave · 20/08/2020 12:13

How about Adaline? Ada for short? I would love to be called this! Good luck choosing your new name I hope it brings lots of happiness to you xx

sugagii · 20/08/2020 12:15

@Onekidnoclue i wouldn't be specifically looking for the same first letter, but i wouldn't be opposed to it Smile @Lelophants poppy Blush
thanks everyone for the suggestions so far!

How old are you op? I think it sounds better if you choose a name that ‘fits’ with that. I changed my name around 4 years ago, decided to keep the same initial to make signatures etc easier. No regrets, I forget I used to be called anything else now.

len1234 · 20/08/2020 12:32

I'm in a similar situations, tossing up if I should change my name or not.

I like Maya.

Is there an actress or famous person you'd like to name yourself after?

sugagii · 20/08/2020 12:53

@MeMyselfAye under 21 Smile. i'm moving to korea soon (a teaching job, very very excited!) so i want one that preferably isn't too 'clunky' iyswim, as i plan on spending a very very long time in korea (if not forever!) so i want one that'll be easy for people to pronounce, so i don't have to spend my life trying to explain it everytime i meet someone new! Smile i do like the name ivy, but it doesn't seem very 'me', thank you again everyone!

Nikori · 20/08/2020 13:30

From experience, people in South Korea struggle with "F" as it isn't in their alphabet or something. My name also starts with "F" and friends from South Korea pronounce it as "P", so Faye becomes Paye.

MulticolourMophead · 20/08/2020 13:31

Ana sounds nice. And good luck with your new job x

RickOShay · 20/08/2020 15:08

sugagii · 20/08/2020 15:09

@MulticolourMophead thank you that's very sweet Smile i do really like ana, but i worry that people would pronounce it as ar-an (in my head, i imagine it as ah-na, like the way anna is pronounced). i think what i want is a short, sophisticated and beautiful name, which ana is for me, but i do worry about the mid pronounciation and whether it's too 'simple', i know i'm being picky but i want to get it right Smile

OP posts:
MulticolourMophead · 20/08/2020 15:27

Of course you want to get it right, names mean so much to us.
