Do you have a wine fridge?

Do you like it? Does it work well? Are you glad you got one?

I’m thinking about getting a little wine fridge for the kitchen but DH is dubious...

12 degrees isn't very cold - but it is the right temperature for wine!

We have ours at 13C and it's perfect. White wine isn't supposed to be fridge cold.

Trashtara · 09/08/2020 12:00

No because I don't drink much white wine.

We do have a separate drinks fridge though.

Reedwarbler · 09/08/2020 12:22

Yes, we've got one built in one in the kitchen. It's used for wine, beer, lager and soft drinks and frees up space in the fridge. I love it. It's quite big so holds a lot of bottles and cans. Very useful at christmas/when entertaining.

I admit I am a heathen and love white wine ice cold. So we have the temp at 5 degrees and even the then I normally put an ice cube in the glass!!

Oldraver · 09/08/2020 22:06

We have one of those small beer fridges with a clear door.

It had beer cider and soft drinks. We also use it to cool food quickly as it doesn't matter putting hot food into a beer fridge

SurreyHillsGirl · 09/08/2020 23:25

Yes, we have one in the kitchen, full of our favourite reds and whites. We also have a large built in wine rack in our kitchen island. We like wine Wine Grin

We have an under counter drinks fridge. We keep wine and beer in it, also vodka and gin, mixers, soft drinks and mineral water. We can chill fifteen full sized bottles so there’s always a cold drink available. That frees up the drinks rack in the main fridge for milk and other similar items.

PegasusReturns · 09/08/2020 23:37

Yes it fits about 50 bottles - dual control red and white. But first world problems it doesn’t fit champagne bottles which drives me mad.

I also have a rack in the regular fridge and a regular fridge in the services room that is filled with booze.

I like wine Grin

Heffalooomia · 09/08/2020 23:39

Yes I have a wine fridge but I'm teetotal and I use it for making sauerkraut... the upper temperature of 18 degrees is in the lower end of optimal fermenting range

m00rfarm · 09/08/2020 23:43

We debated having a wine fridge but ended up buying a second fridge freezer. So we have one for food only and another one for drinks and ice. Much cheaper and more space. But less flexibility with temperature.

StarlightLady · 10/08/2020 07:39

Yes, l have one. It doesn’t hold as many bottles as the manufacturer claims. Still useful though.

Gastropod · 10/08/2020 07:52

Yes - a big one in the cellar, with room for a couple of hundred bottles. It's designed for storing wine long term though, not for cooling white/rosé to drinking temperature. Still have to move bottles to the real fridge to get them cold before drinking. But like a previous poster, I buy wine in bulk from producers (France) and then lay it down for a few years until it's drinkable.

Most French people I know do the same. First couple of years are an investment as you are buying wine you can't immediately drink, but start reaping the rewards fairly quickly!! Now I love that I can reach into the fridge and pull out a really fancy bottle that I paid peanuts for...

Lurchermom · 10/08/2020 07:55

Yes, we have a slim little one for whites (one temp) holds 16 bottles I think, though we do put in cans of pop sometimes. I used to work in the wine industry and my biggest hate is over chilled white wine. Our normal fridge is set to

lookatallthosechickens · 10/08/2020 07:57

I have the fridge from our old house in the cellar because the house we bought has a built-in. I keep wine in it, and extra food at Christmas. Does that count!

ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 10/08/2020 07:58

Depends if you wave enough willpower to have wine in the house and not drink it. I don't, so we didn't get one.

We do have a spare fridge freezer in the utility room so that we can chill lots of drinks for special occasions.

Gunpowder · 10/08/2020 08:05

I LOVE ours. It’s only a little 18 bottle one but it makes me very happy. Would love to have a huge one and be able to buy loads of wine en primeur.

Teluna · 10/08/2020 08:14

Yes, we bought it after a wine tour on holiday when we lived in tropical country. We bought it to keep red wine in. The enthusiasm for wine didn’t last very long and we used it for chocolate instead 😄

Now we’re back in the UK it’s in the garage and comes out for Christmas. It’s brilliant then.

MyPersona · 10/08/2020 09:03

@Vinorosso74 you have to take MN threads about wine fridges, agas, boot rooms etc. with a massive pinch of Fleur de Sel. Grin

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 10/08/2020 09:11

Our house came with an under the counter wine fridge - it spends most of its time filled with normal drinks/basically used as a second fridge especially for cans and bottles.

If we were serious wine drinkers rather than happy gluggers I think you'd want more zones

The ice-maker in the main fridge now, that's the thing that I really appreciate.

abersoch11 · 10/08/2020 09:17

No, and not just because I don't drink wine. The thought would never enter my head if I did.
