Can anyone recommend anything that's suitable for watching with an 11 and 13 year old please? We are after a series to get stuck into

Stranger Things

MotherofMigraines · 07/08/2020 11:23

Gilmore girls

We've loved Big Bang Theory and Friends, and now we're watching Frasier! We have the West Wing lined up next.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

I think stranger things is a bit old personally for the 11 YO (although its fab)

Try:

Merlin
letter for the king
lost in space
modern family
friends
Timeless
Once upon a Time

I watched stranger things with my 11 year old. The first series wasn’t nearly as scary as the third! It is a little bit gory but not bad language or sex if that helps! My daughter loved it!
We also enjoy friends but can not commit to going from the start!
I will watch this thread with interest as I’d like to sit down and get into something with her too!

Downton Abbey!

Honestly could not believe how into it my 12 and 10 year old got!

Interior design challenge, grand designs ( enjoyed with our dark humour side game called "divorce" depending on how unrealistic/out of budget the project is)

Tiny house nation, zumbo just desserts on Netflix

Bake off is hotly anticipated,

Stranger Things is awesome and kids that age can really relate to the characters. I think it's fine unless you have children that find things particularly scary, I do agree with pp that the third series seemed to be more unnecessarily gory than the first two though.

BluebirdHill · 07/08/2020 11:41

Animated fantasy series but we are enjoying Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts on Netflix. Also enjoyed some of the recent reality series like Sewing Bee and Glow Up.

iklboo · 07/08/2020 11:42

DS is 14 now but still loves:

Bake Off
Bake Off Professionals (loves Benoit)
Portrait Artist Of The Year
Landscape Artist Of The Year
Grand Designs (extra points for a pregnancy)
Interior Design Challenge
Sewing Bee
Pottery Throwdown
The IT Crowd

Plus lots of other stuff, of course, but these are the more tween friendly ones.

morriseysquif · 07/08/2020 11:42

Stranger Things, shows a great friendship group who always look out for eachother.

Moresandwiches · 07/08/2020 12:05

Masterchef Junior - the first American series is brilliant.

eyeoresancerre · 07/08/2020 12:10

Modern Family is great - loads of jokes that can over kids heads but funny for adults. It's perfect. It's on Netflix and Sky.

SistemaAddict · 07/08/2020 13:37

They have watched Stranger Things and loved it. Friends is too old for them both after we tried watching the other day and I'd forgotten about all the sex stuff in there and they were both Blush despite being quite aware and matter of fact about things.

I'll have a look at Gilmore Girls and some of the others, thank you Smile

If they liked stranger things, try umbrella academy. My 13 year old also enjoyed once upon a time (the first few series are better than the later ones though). For something more lighthearted we like watching the fresh prince.

squanderedcore · 07/08/2020 13:45

Scorpions
Jumbo desserts
Bake off children's version?

lazylinguist · 07/08/2020 13:47

My 12 and 14yo love Merlin. If yours like animated stuff, Avatar is also good. Oh and Good Omens is brilliant- mine have watched that about 4 times!

RedStreetMonument · 07/08/2020 14:11

Ugly Betty
Friday Night Lights

tootyfruitypickle · 07/08/2020 14:49

I've started watching Schitt's Creek with my 12 year old, but if you find Friends a bit iffy you might not like Schitt's Creek!

She really enjoyed the Joe Lycett series on C4 as well, and that followed watching him on the Sewing Bee.

Whengodwasarabbit · 07/08/2020 15:16

We have been watching The Wonder Years . I forgot how much I loved that series growing up. My dd is really enjoying it too. I got a box set from eBay.

Janus · 07/08/2020 15:31

@iklboo you’ve just named all my favourite programmes 😂😂! My 4 will definitely watch most of those and range from 9-20!!

AlwaysLatte · 07/08/2020 15:33

We've watching Stranger Things and A Series of Unfortunate Events with DS 12 and 10 recently. The 12 year old is now into Umbrella Academy.

Ah I love the Wonder Years! I'm always wishing they'd stream it somewhere but have never found it. Never thought of eBay though...
frugalkitty · 07/08/2020 16:27

Scorpion
The Fresh Prince
Merlin

Chevron123 · 07/08/2020 16:41

Most of our lockdown favourites have been mentioned:

Merlin
The IT Crowd
Miranda
Glow Up
Outnumbered
Big Bang Theory (although quite a lot of sex references once the girlfriends are involved)
Travel Man (Richard Ayoade doing hilariously honest city breaks)
Joe Lycett

PersonaNonGarter · 07/08/2020 16:49

Alex Rider - we loved it
Northern Lights/His Dark Materials
Brooklyn 99
