How do I find out if they have?

@Arthersleep

I'd forgotten all about 'David's dead'! That was hilarious!!
Apart from the fact that David Bowie had actually died.

I did have to laugh though.

Extracurricularfatigue · 09/08/2020 08:53

And of course David Gest did actually die not long after leaving the house.

Just watched it again. Notice new things every time. Jonathon saying ‘I don’t do crazy I don’t have that in my life’ - um Kardashians ? Daniela being told by angie that it was her ex husband and then going out and saying ‘that’s sick I won’t speak to her’ and continuing the madness, Gemma Collins face !, the pulling back of the duvet on and on.
Oh dear - that’s Done me a power of good. What a laugh.

I know someone who works in HR who had the reverse problem, they had a staff member on long term sick due to a myriad of health issues. She started to have a terrible time getting in touch with the colleague who stopped answering emails and letters. Then a member of their family called up to say unfortunately he had passed away. She was very sketchy about giving her name or details.

When HR tried to contact the next of kin who was the colleague’s father and brother - they were outraged with the suggestion, denied it and demanded to know who told the company that. They got very angry and started swearing down the phone, demanding the name of the person who had told her. So my friend had to deal with that, and work out if this colleague had or hadn’t died.

In the end in turned out he had died, but the family were very strange and didn’t want to tell the company. Turns out the mystery caller was the sister who was estranged from the family and knew the father and brother would keep it quiet. It’s still unclear what their reasoning was, maybe they were collecting his sick pay and didn’t want it to stop - but it was due to run out anyway as it had been a long time. My friend thought it might have been a control thing, but it took a very long time to establish if he was actually deceased!

Bizarre !

JingsMahBucket · 10/08/2020 17:50

@Sparklesocks whoaaa, that is weird. Yeah, I would wonder about the collection of sick pay as well. I wonder if he didn't have life insurance so they were focusing on sick pay to get a bit more money to help pay the monthly bills? Weird.

Does anyone remember the thread where a woman woke up to find her Facebook profile filled with RIP posts addressed to her?

UnagiSalmonSkinRoll · 10/08/2020 18:42

JUST ASK THE DEAD COLLEAGUE FFS!

Hahahah, hello, I'm just ringing to see if you're dead Grin

Yes it was hilarious. She was very philosophical as I recall.

I bumped into an ex colleague in the doctor’s once, I’d been told ten years before by a mutual friend that she had died. Don’t think I’ve ever looked so surprised to see someone (I didn’t mention that I thought she was dead)

KurriKawari · 11/08/2020 08:40

Am watching an episode of the IT Crowd - and it's the one in which Moss lies to all his colleagues that Jen has died.

HeronLanyon · 11/08/2020 08:52

When my lovely old dad died (he lived abroad) The neighbour who found him ran to neighbour2 saying something like ‘i think x is dead’.
Neighbour2 misheard ‘dead’ as ‘deaf’ and said ‘yes he needs to put his hearing aids in’.

When I arrived neighbours1 and 2 were a bit reticent to tell me what exactly happened but they finally did. We all had a lot of laughs about it.

In all of the shock and grief it was really lovely to laugh. My dad would have loved it. Still now, years later, I laugh when I think of it.

Neighbour2 died recently and I got an email from her daughter - I read it very carefully before sending condolences for her loss. Grin

Any update on this? Was there any further explanation? Mind boggling that someone would make up a lie like that!

NotTerfNorCis · 17/08/2020 08:06

This is actually worse for the person who's supposed to have died. Imagine if a colleague was spreading graphic details of your supposed death.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 19/08/2020 07:21

How did this person tell you was it verbally/ by text or email?

SunOnMyWindow · 19/08/2020 13:27

Just ask your line manager and if they say no explain why you are asking

StatementKnickers · 26/08/2020 15:19

Still thinking about this one! How did it turn out?

ChildOfTheNineties · 22/11/2020 22:20

I know this is one hell of a bump, but I would love an update about this!!

itsgettingcoldoutside · 22/11/2020 22:28

I would speak to hr

haircutsRus · 22/11/2020 23:06

Phew. I thought I was suffering from deja-vu. But no, just an attack of the zombies.
