For anyone who is interested - M&S food is on Ocado

Do a search for M&S. I can see the range, 4672 items, but it's all showing out of stock. Looks like some decent products to substitute the Waitrose Essentials range.

Says deliveries from 15th Sept.

I’m really annoyed about the move!
Does anyone reckon they will still stock
Crosta & Mollica and the Unearthed ranges? I love them both.
Whenever I browse in an actual M&S I’m always faced by aisles of preprepared food/ready meals neither of which I ever buy. They do have some lovely things in but the amount of the aforementioned stuff enraged me when I see it in store.
I use quite a few of the Waitrose things but also mostly branded stuff which will carry on even after the switch.
Lots of M&S booze on there Grin (I don’t buy booze in my online shop so this won’t affect my shopping experience!).
I’m sure it will all be fine, I just prefer Waitrose to Marks as a supermarket.

Shellingbynight · 05/08/2020 21:54

@VanCleefArpels

I had an email today saying if I book a delivery on or after 1st Sept I can shop the M&S items. They are currently greyed out, I think just as a tease!!
I had that same email so I booked a slot for 1st September. Once you book a September slot, the products appear and you can order them.
Xiaoxiong · 05/08/2020 22:04

Crosta & Mollica is sold at Sainsbury's too so I bet it stays, don't know about Unearthed and I hope Ocado still carries it, but I think a lot of Unearthed stuff is quite well replaced with M&S stuff - olives, sundried tomatoes, tortilla, sliced meats, etc.

I'm hoping there is some algorithm running in the Ocado servers making sure there is a like-for-like replacement for everything that's going - they're a pretty data-driven company and they've known that the Waitrose partnership was ending for years so they've had time to introduce a lot of their own brands of stuff or ranges that will replace bits and pieces of the Waitrose offering like Cooks & Co or Picard.

@TweetUsOnFacebook

I've wasted most of the day redoing my favourites and discovering lots of goodies 😋
This is my plan for tomorrow. Piercy Pig here I come.....
Fightthebear · 05/08/2020 22:39

Also hoping there’s an algorithm.

My cooking will collapse without the Ocado frozen soffito mix 🤞

TweetUsOnFacebook · 05/08/2020 22:40

It looks like the essentials range has pretty much been matched. Some of our staples are the 35p baked beans, £1.40 packs of 4 tinned tomatoes, 99p egg noodles, Indian tonic 60p and the aforementioned 65p ketchup to name but a few.

The cats will miss the £2.50 for 12 pouches cat of food. They loved those. The m&s equivalent takes us into Sheba price territory!

I am a bit sad, but I can walk to m&s for Percy pigs in ten mins. I liked the waitrose stuff though. Especially the fishless goujons. Wink

ThomasHardyPerennial · 06/08/2020 08:06

I don't buy many Waitrose products, and those I do buy (things like fruit and veg) have been replaced with similar from M&S. I know I will buy far too many sweets and treat food from the new items though!

Furball · 06/08/2020 08:50

From my regulars, M&S are Missing

Cheapo tubes of Tomato Puree
Belgian Milk / Dark Chocolate - Cheapo-ish one I use for cooking
Yum yums? Surely M& S are king of yum yums?

But its all workable, apart from the yum yums Sad

I have enjoyed waitrose products though, and will miss them, but I'm going to see how this goes.

CouldBeOuting · 06/08/2020 08:59

When the switch was first announced I thought I’d probably stop using Ocado when it went ahead. Now I think I’m pleased. M&S don’t seem to have followed other companies by replacing all their sugary drinks with artificial sweeteners. As sweeteners make me ill I’ve been struggling (it’s genuinely awful... I haven’t had Pimms and lemonade this summer as I couldn’t get suitable lemonade .... major suffering 😎). I think the change is going to work for me....

JassyRadlett · 06/08/2020 09:05

Having looked at it, I think I’m still out. Ocado weren’t great in lockdown and I’m finding the M&S shift pretty uninspiring.

But I’m foreign so perhaps just don’t understand the brand halo M&S seems to have....

AuntieStella · 06/08/2020 10:03

I think I'll get the odd Waitrose delivery, but will probably stick mainly with Ocado.

I thought it was a dreadful idea when first announced (as I really like Waitrose, and it's why I started with Ocado in the first place) and expected to be defecting about now.

But I think I'll stay put and see how it goes. They may have been counting on customers doing that. They can't have planned on the pandemic giving people The Fear that if they switch and there's a second lockdown, new customers might struggle for slots - an unexpected extra incentive not to switch

Fleurchamp · 06/08/2020 10:39

@AuntieStella

I am going to do the same, see how it goes and get the odd Waitrose delivery. I like Waitrose but their range is just so small compared to Ocado. I really thought I would just leave, switch to Waitrose and do the odd Ocado shop to get things I couldn't with Waitrose. I am pleasantly surprised.

Xiaoxiong · 06/08/2020 10:55

It's funny how patchy it seems to be - apart from at the very beginning when every supermarket seemed to go temporarily into meltdown, Ocado were a lifeline for us in lockdown. I couldn't get a delivery with any other supermarket at all except Ocado, whereas I have friends who say exactly the same about Sainsburys or Tescos whereas I had no luck with either of them at all.

I did try Waitrose delivery last year for a month and it wasn't a patch on Ocado - short dates, substitutions or omissions because it wasn't on the shelf, inconvenient delivery, the online payment didn't work so twice I had to call the actual store and pay over the phone, and I never realised until then how many brands Ocado carries that Waitrose doesn't offer so there were a lot of things missing from my usual shop, or were more expensive.

Anyway looking down my last order, I seem to have already replaced most Waitrose own-label stuff already with Ocado own-label or other brands. I'm interested to see if brands like Unearthed are connected to Waitrose and will also disappear.

SmileTolerantly · 06/08/2020 10:58

I’m just about to return to Ocado after a few months either using my slots for shielding relatives or deliberately not using them in order to leave them available for people who need them.

But the council have done a new road scheme to discourage short car journeys and it’s now unreasonably inconvenient to drive to Asda for a big shop, so I’m probably going back to Ocado. I’ll miss the Waitrose stuff but I’ll miss the app more - using the website on my phone is an absolute PITA. When are they bringing the app back?!?!

Did someone say that they did some clothes? It would be very handy to be able to get basics like socks, pants and t shirts for the DC delivered.

KenAdams · 06/08/2020 11:02

I'm so bored of the same old meat and fish at Ocado. Hopefully they stock other varieties with the M&S move.

Xiaoxiong · 06/08/2020 11:07

Yes!! adult stuff looks like mostly pants, socks, tights, some basics. Same for kids stuff.

MarshaBradyo · 06/08/2020 11:09

I still have loads of Essential Waitrose in my Saturday order

SmileTolerantly · 06/08/2020 11:19

Oh that’s handy. If I ever return to the office it’ll be useful to get tights delivered. Likewise emergency formal shirts for men would be a timesaver.

GiantKitten · 06/08/2020 11:22

They’ve always done some kids’ clothes - including Waitrose stuff, which is now on clearance of course if anybody’s interested.

(I’ve had a few Frugi bargains recently Smile)

Inmybackyard · 06/08/2020 11:28

There’s definitely a lot of data analysis going on. M&S are introducing new products specifically to replicate the Waitrose top sellers.

I’m very sceptical about the move - another one who thinks M&S is just ready meals and expensive fruit and veg. I’ll give it a couple of orders but I’m prepared to cancel my smart pass.

Juiceey · 06/08/2020 11:33

I'm pleased. I love M&S stuff.

EachandEveryone · 06/08/2020 11:34

Will they have the Dine in for £12?

AuntieStella · 06/08/2020 11:55

When are they bringing the app back?!?

It's working for me

They didn't announce it AFAIK (perhaps to avoid a deluge?) and it is perhaps a phased return, but try it. You might get a nice surprise.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 06/08/2020 12:32

App still not working for me 😔
