The thread about booking the nudist campsite made me wonder of you have ever booked the wronh hotel, flight,.theatre tickets, anything really and what happened?

I booked hotel for 12 months time and didnt notice until we had arrived at our destination after a 9 hour flight and 3 hour taxi journey. Our hotel was fully booked. Thankfully it was a chain hotel and we were able to go to anothee hotel nearby and they refunded the original booking. Cost about £200 more at the new hotel tho

We were traveling around Georgia in the USA staying at several different places for a few days at a time. Quite a complicated itinerary.

Booked to stay in Savannah for 4 nights. Or so I thought. On the evening of the 4th day (after the third night) we were enjoying our evening meal at the hotel. The manager strolled up. Hope you are enjoying your stay he says. Very much so we replied. Glad to hear it, he replied, it's just that your booking was for 3 nights and you are still here so I take it you will be staying with us another night? Very embarrassing! I had read the itinerary wrong!

He was absolutely fine about it and assured us our room was still available for that night and he was glad we were enjoying ourselves so much we couldn't bear to leave! Grin

@tinytemper66

I once booked flights to Spain for 5 nights and only booked the hotel for 4! Luckily they had room to accommodate us for the night.
I can never work out how many nights I need to book the hotel for. That’s why I always do it as a package so they have to work it out.

Not holiday, but I travel a lot for work. I've turned up to a hotel which I stay at a lot, and it turned out that I had never actually booked my stay which was embarrassing.
I forgot to book a return flight last year (complicated, fly into one place, drive to another, then drive to third place and fly out of there trip) and only realised when I got to the airport and was looking for my booking reference.

We did a Road Trip around New Zealand and books some direct and some through travel agency and somehow forgot to book one day, luckily noticed just before we were going, but there were no hotels in this little bit of NZ so we thankfully managed to extend one of the other hotels for the day.

@BalloonSlayer

Wasn't booking a nudist campsite by "mistake" the plot of a Carry On film?
I think it was the opposite. The men thought they had tricked the women into booking into a nudist camp site but they accidentally booked a regular one with a similar name. I might be wrong. It’s been a long time since a bank holiday in the 80s when it was always on tv.

I found a bargain break in a hotel on Christchurch Dorset, booked it for 9 people. It was only when I came to pay and it asked me for the money in New Zealand dollars that I realised my mistake.

LizzieMacQueen · 31/07/2020 14:43

(i blame Easyjet and the way they display their results) but I once booked flights for the Monday instead of the Sunday. They'd shown me the cheapest ( next day ) when my search was for a specific day. Was pissed off for about an hour.

New dp at the time and I were going away for a night in York. We didn't have a lot of money so I spent ages doing my research and found a cute B & B in budget. Went to book it a couple of days later and it was a bit cheaper. Yay - go me! When we put the post code in to drive there it was closer to the city than I remembered too. Yay again! Until we arrived and discovered I had booked a different b &b of a very similar name - think York Lodge and York House and it was like an awful hostel that smelt of drains. The room was clean though, the location was actually better and the breakfast was bloody marvellous so we still had a lovely time but it wasn't the boutique cute b & B I was expecting.

I remember reading about the couple who booked flights from Birmingham Alabama and not Birmingham UK to Las Vegas for their honeymoon. I think Virgin took pity on them and gave them free flights at a later date

DH loves to tell people I booked a ferry to the wrong country! In reality I was meant to book Zebrugge and actually booked Rotterdam - it was only an hour more travelling (driving) and the same price so no harm done really.

Once I was going travelling with a friend - a multi-stop trip around europe. The night before I sent her a message saying "see you tomorrow" at the end - she had the dates wrong and thought it was the day after. She was at a beer festival and drunk, so had to rush home at 11pm and pack for the 4am start! She made the flight but her drunk packing was quite funny - I think she had 3 towels and no socks...

Poppyismyfavourite · 31/07/2020 15:02

Ooh although I did almost book the wrong flight once - was booking manchester (UK) to philadelphia (US). I had no idea there was a manchester in the US, so was almost sucked in by the cheap price of that flight!

CrockyBetter · 31/07/2020 15:06

@frankie001 Cornwall is Newquay, Wales is New Quay.

@CrockyBetter that wasn’t clear on a website as there was no space between the words. Wondered why it said a 5 hr journey when I put postcode in. Was on holiday in Newquay so didn’t even notice the postcode was Wales!

NommyChompers · 31/07/2020 15:27

Charity theatre trip - booked 40 tickets for the day before we turned up! Managed to get sorted but very stressful and embarrassing

totallyyesno · 31/07/2020 16:33

Not quite the same but we once had a new teacher coming to meet up with me at work and I gave her directions from the station - basically "walk straight up the road, take the second road on the right and we are on the corner". She couldn't find us and phoned me and I kept on giving her instructions and she kept on insisting she couldn't find her way...until it eventually dawned on me that she had got off the train at the previous stop and was in a different town.

edwinbear · 31/07/2020 16:51

An old boss of mine organised a belated honeymoon for him and his DW - well, she booked the hotel, in the Maldives where she had always wanted to go. He was in charge of sorting out the flights.

I sat there and watched the blood drain out of his face the day before they were due to fly, when it dawned on him that he'd booked flights to Mauritius instead of the Maldives. Cost him a fortune to rearrange those at such short notice!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 31/07/2020 17:02

I did.
I booked and paid for the wrong month. Booked for end of June instead of July when the kids are on school holidays. I felt like a right idiot. Cost me the £50 for changes, plus the diifference in the holiday cost, so a £300 pound extra or thereabouts.

CrockyBetter · 31/07/2020 17:03

@totallyyesno
That reminds me of when I rang RAC before internet on phones was a thing. I told them the town, the retail park name and the name of the shop I was outside of. Two hours later I got a phone call saying they couldn't locate me. After much toing and froing turns out they were not only at the wrong retail park but the wrong county. They had gone to OLDBURY I was in OLDHAM. Turns out they have retail parks with same names and both have the same shop on it.

i fell out with a friend on holiday years ago, it was about 11pm - i booked a flight home that left at 1am i thought it was 26 hours later - it wasnt it was 2 hours - only realised when it wouldnt let me check in online

midsomermurderess · 31/07/2020 17:51

I meant to book a hotel in Santiago de Compostela in Spain but booked in Santiago in Chile instead. It was non-refundable. Only for a night or two though.

Paranoidmarvin · 31/07/2020 17:52

Missed out a whole day out of the holiday. Ended up with nowhere to stay.

Mumdiva99 · 31/07/2020 18:06

I booked flights to Barcelona from Heathrow and back to Gatwick....BAs site at the time looked up the cheapest price without pointing out it was a different airport!

I booked attraction tickets for the wrong day.

I booked threatre tickets for 6 months time....not realising until just before the show it was actually for the following year....

But....i am the organiser in the house and sometimes you have to act fast to sort things and it goes wrong. If I didn't organise we wouldn't actually do much. So now I just laugh if I make a mistake.

Cruddles · 31/07/2020 18:14

Was waiting near the front of a long queue to get in the Brixton Academy for a gig. Woman way pleading with the security to let her in, from what i could gather from the conversation she had tickets for the night before and only realised when she arrived. And her group was 20 people. The gig was the same artist but security wouldn't let her in as it was sold out. She wouldn't had been popular with her group

Bottomplasters · 31/07/2020 18:15

I booked Disneyland Paris tickets twice £300 each.

I didn't think it had gone thorough. It was through a third party agent. I couldn't afford to loose the money so I emailed the managing director and tweeted regularly until I got my cash back

FrancesFlute · 31/07/2020 18:17

We were on holiday in Wales. The weather was rubbish so we decided to go to the cinema one evening. Looked online and found a showing for a film we liked the look of and were just about to book tickets when I noticed the cinema was in Bangor, Northern Ireland, rather than Bangor in Wales (20 mins from our cottage).

ArcherDog · 31/07/2020 18:18

We had booked a cruise around the Med.
Queued up for ages to board, get to the front and turns out we were queuing for the Isle of Wight ferry instead!
Frantic dash across the harbour in rush hour to just catch our boat in time.
