Must be their optimum conditions today to release their princes and princesses!
Here in South Yorkshire it is very warm and very still and there are thousands flying and crawling around.
I don't mind them as they are good for the garden but I'm keeping a coaster over my wine glass 😁

Yes they are out in South West Wales!

dixiedo · 30/07/2020 19:52

North wales. Hundreds of them. ! 😖

Marcipex · 30/07/2020 19:52

Yes in Devon

Bilingualspingual · 30/07/2020 19:53

In south London this time yesterday. Why are they good for the garden? Green fly-eating?

AnnieCartwright · 30/07/2020 19:54

Shropshire and loads here too.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 30/07/2020 19:55

Yes , Kent!!

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 30/07/2020 19:56

Isn't it strange how they all come out at once ( maybe not , if you are in to conspiracy theories or ant expert). I always thought it was a local area thing.

Flymetothetoon · 30/07/2020 19:57

@Bilingualspingual yes they eat aphids and their eggs in particular.
My greenhouse has hundreds of ants keeping my tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and strawberries aphid free.
They are my little heroes and means no pesticides required!

Yes in South Yorkshire too, I'd just changed the tire on my bike when 3 flew down my top so now I'm covered in greasy hand prints Angry

corlan · 30/07/2020 20:01

We had them in South West London yesterday - second time this year, but not as bad as the first! I didn't realise it could happen more than once a year.

TuckMyWin · 30/07/2020 20:02

Yes. Unfortunately, it's meant that I have failed to convince my dh of the existence of flying ant day. Because a few weeks ago, we had loads of flying ants, and I announced it was flying ant day, supported by posts on Mumsnet and the local Facebook page about it being flying ant day. He googled and got all scientific and 'not one single flying ant day blah blah blah'. I scoffed and told him he was wrong. And now it's flying ant day. Again.

Flymetothetoon · 30/07/2020 20:02

Aww it sounds like a mass co-ordinated gathering of the winged ones! May they be successful and make new colonies as long as it's not inside my house

Yes, loads emerged earlier in the north west

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 30/07/2020 20:12

Yes. Went into the garden to enjoy a drink after work and the little bastards were everywhere. Including straight in my drink. Which luckily wasn't the can of Pimms I've been saving for today!

Alderaan · 30/07/2020 20:12
