So far I've rejected Cinema, the V and A (shut) Churchill war rooms (shut), docklands miseum (shut), there's no tickets for the National gallery earlier than 3.45. No shows obvs.

All I've come up with is going to look at the carriages in the Royal Mews (Buckingham palace state rooms are shut so this is the only bit open) plus wandering about Confused

Anyone know of anything else that's open?

I was in town last week and it was really quiet but I was going to work so not looking for something to 'do'.

Olympic Park is open

We went to Hampton Court today - you have to book, but we only did that two days ago, and got an 11.00am slot. It was deserted first thing. We basically had the palace courtyards and room to ourselves, stunning. By lunchtime a little bit busier, but we were in the gardens then, and it didn't matter. But honestly, just sitting in the gardens by the Thames was lovely, and the palace rooms are cool and quiet. Worth a try?

Toddlerteaplease · 30/07/2020 16:29

I'm going on a tour if Highgate cemetery tomorrow.

AuldFox · 30/07/2020 16:43

I’m heading out of London to the coast tomorrow. I’m sick of London!!

tara66 · 30/07/2020 16:46

The Big Wheel thing? Thames ferries?

37KAT · 30/07/2020 16:47

Alternative day out is the East End.
Start with a visit to Sky Garden (limited free tickets, book in advance)

Then walk up through spittlefields market to Brick Lane, look at the street art, grab a coffee, loads of places to eat - street food or restaurants. Usually something going on at the Truman brewery. Lots of art galleries or pop up events. Quirky shops.

37KAT · 30/07/2020 16:48

Right by sky garden is St Katharine Dock - take a boat ride?

The gardens at Syon Park are open and glorious just now. Plenty of shady glades, and deserted.

The City is also deserted at the moment if you want an urban architecture walk. Same for the Temple.

National Gallery last week wonderful and actually more enjoyable for having less people. Amazing collections. Need to pre-book.

allfalldown47 · 30/07/2020 17:04

Highgate Woods is lovely to escape to on a hot day. Used to live 2 minutes away from it Sad

edwinbear · 30/07/2020 17:40

Can you get a Clipper down to Greenwich? Greenwich Park is lovely if you've not been before and I think the Cutty Sark has reopened.

Nubbin · 30/07/2020 18:02

Tate Modern is open as is the mushroom exhibit at Somerset house. Japan house is also open and a nice visit.

SomethingOnce · 30/07/2020 22:34

@LaurieFairyCake

So I had membership of Kew and royal palaces last year so saw everything at least twice last summer

Will never go to Hampstead ponds again as they let penises into the women's ponds, hate zoos, sick of country walks and live next to a royal park that I think I've been in every day in last 5 months

I'm planning to go out tomorrow as I've just realised it's my only day off in the next two weeks so that rules out a few of these as they don't open til Saturday

Totally resonates that I now want to move City til it opens up again Grin

I'd just go for a walk about but it's going to be 34 degrees and we've both been really ill from having teeth out and I have a sinus infection or dental abscess which means by face is still really swollen

I may be looking for the Holy Grail

There are some swimming pools open

The Barbican is open, they have a nice indoor garden as well as both free and paid art exhibitions.

There are outdoor theatre and music shows re-starting.

New statue on 4th plinth looks worth a look ?

HeronLanyon · 31/07/2020 06:04

Careful about the Inns - lots of pedestrian and car gates locked at the moment.

catnidge · 31/07/2020 06:07

National gallery. In covent garden, there was an opera singer in need of an audience.
DLR and wander round canary wharf.
