Neighbour exercising outside at 10.30pm to 11pm

Loudly. He is very serious about his exercise, he groans loudly, and yells when he smacks himself accidentally with the skipping rope. Asking nicely has not helped the situation. It keeps dc awake, as is right outside their room. They have a back garden they could use, and a front garden but choose to skip outside the two adjoining houses. It's entertaining when the rope smacks him but he complains if we look at him and tells dc to close the curtains.

Can we do anything?

Put motion detector spotlights up?

LillianBland · 29/07/2020 11:57

Sit at the window, with the children and watch him. Get the kids to laugh every time he smacks himself. He has dismissed your request because he can’t be at arsed moving to a different area, so that he doesn’t disturb you and then demands that you stop looking out of your own window! Fuck that!

wowfudge · 29/07/2020 11:58

Is he the sole occupant? Is there someone he lives with you can speak to instead?

If asking nicely doesn't work then perhaps you need to be more blunt?

Film him and put the videos on Tiktok. Send him the links.

skippedtodistraction · 29/07/2020 12:00

He's under a street light so no need to have extra lights although it would be amusing to spotlight him. We do tend to watch and laugh Grin the dc figure they may as well be entertained if they are being kept awake!

He says it's his routine and as it's a public street he can do as he pleases.

I saw a man doing some sort of stretching and bending and fanning about in the park the other day. He got the hump because teenagers laughed at him. Twat.

Yes to all this.

Notpot · 29/07/2020 12:10

Agree with PP sit and watch - but do so making a show of eating popcorn. Laugh and clap loudly and give a standing ovation with whoops when he finishes And yes, film and post on all social media platforms sending him the links along with thanks for being so entertaining. If he complains - just point out it’s in a public street so totally fair game.

BluebellsGreenbells · 29/07/2020 12:14

Set up a camera!

user1468538201 · 29/07/2020 12:20

Grab your entertainment where it occurs, get out the deck chairs, the popcorn and score cards, sit outside and score him for entertainment value, highest jump, loudest grunt etc. By the time the kids are going back to school he'll be too embarrassed to continue.

cosmo30 · 29/07/2020 12:23

Hilarious he's like "stop watching me" 🤣 carry on! I'm sure the rest of the street is watching too

PoppySeedSaid · 29/07/2020 12:27

@skippedtodistraction

And you and your kids can do as you please if he's in a public street. Set up chairs, get popcorn and live stream it on your FB. Grin
DeltaFlyer · 29/07/2020 12:28

Is he a late riser?
If so get the kids to play football under his bedroom window.

labyrinthloafer · 29/07/2020 12:30

It's annoying, BUT as it isn't scary or very protracted I might just encourage my kids to ignore and sleep through it. People do get used to routine noise, even if loud. I no longer hear my neighbour doing the recycling at 2am Hmm.

Are they a good neighbour in other ways? Or generally horrid?

I certainly wouldn't let my kids watch and laugh, really.

Not saying it's not annoying, just I think humans are annoying and on the scale this seems more odd than anything more serious.

Smallsteps88 · 29/07/2020 12:30

he complains if we look at him and tells dc to close the curtains.

Yeah he doesn’t get to do that. If he’s outside he doesn’t get to control who looks at him.

Flyinggeese · 29/07/2020 12:35

Tlollj what was he doing to deserve being called a twat?! If he’s in a public park it’s OK surely, especially as people are avoiding indoor gyms at the moment.

ChangeThePassword · 29/07/2020 12:38

Set up a fake Facebook account offering free exercise classes in your street at 10.30pm.

Or just get a few friends to pop over in exercise gear at that point, make sure they know his name, pretending that they see it on Facebook and booked and paid for a month's work of sessions..

DianaT1969 · 29/07/2020 12:46

Get the children out there trampolining loudly at 6am.

katy1213 · 29/07/2020 12:49

Maybe come up with a cheerleader chant and sing loudly? You do need to personalise it and work in his name for maximum embarrassment.

MahaMoon · 29/07/2020 12:52

Make sure all of you sit at the window every time and make it obvious you’re watching him. Start filming him and talking loudly about live streaming it. Then make sure you’re all out there bright and early making lots of noise and waking him up!

Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 12:53

I love all these PA suggestions - you know not a single poster would actually do what they're suggesting.

TBH, I'm not sure 10:30 for 30mins is that unreasonable.

Billben · 29/07/2020 12:55

tells dc to close the curtains.

😱 After being told to eff off, I’d be standing in that window every time he was exercising. What a weirdo.

FMLpassthegin · 29/07/2020 12:57

If you can't beat him, join him. Go get yourselves some skipping ropes and join in.
