Irritated by this conversation in the shop but would you actually do anything about it?

Just after some other perspectives on this as I'm annoyed and wondering if I'm over reacting a bit (difficult and hormonal day generally so that's entirely possible!)

Yesterday morning quite early I popped into my local shop. There was only me, one other customer and the assistant. I was wearing a mask, the others weren't.

They (shop assistant and other customer) proceeded to have a loud, pointed conversation about how ridiculous masks were and how they were just for show and people should get out of their own backsides. All whilst sniggering in my direction.

The other customer left and as I was being served I told the shop assistant that I wouldn't continue shopping there if this attitude to masks was shared by all staff.

The assistant sniggered at me for a while then said "well I don't give a fuck"

As I left he'd called the other customer back (they clearly knew each other) and were giggling together again.

I'm annoyed but just wondered what others would do?

Let it go over my head and do nothing (I'm usually quite laid back and would choose this)

Stop using the shop (possible but inconvenient)

Complain (tempting and I've found an address but it does feel a bit OTT honestly)

What would you do?

@verybritishproblems

people who only post a biscuit on MN.

Grin I used to think this was a nice supportive gesture like Flowers only recently discovered it’s true meaning Blush

I’m sure you were very confused at some of the horrible posters getting so much support. 🤣

Write to the manager, name or describe the member of staff and tell what they said.

Rhubardandcustard · 17/07/2020 14:56

Complain op, don't care how old they were they were out of line.

Lollypop4 · 17/07/2020 14:59

I would complain, Very rude behaviour, and given that the UK will soon have to wear masks in all shops, he will have a lot of "fi-ng" to do before long!!!

NancyPickford · 17/07/2020 15:02

Lollypop4 they've been compulsory in shops in Scotland for a while. .

Deathraystare · 17/07/2020 16:28

Of course you should complain. They swore at you! All these shops going on about how they are toeing the line re only a few people in at a time, social distancing etc. Even if they don't want you to wear a mask, thy don't need to swear at you.

IncrediblySadToo · 17/07/2020 16:44

You should make the owner/manager aware of how his staff are representing him if I was my shop I'd want to know.

Teens arse wouldn't hit the door on the way out

Shops are going to struggle enough, without staff like this pissing customers off & making them decide to shop elsewhere.

That's why I'd report, not because some teen saying 'I don't give a fuck' would upset me
