How long have you had your current phone number?

Got my new SIM and did the usual request my Pac code thing and can now put it in my phone and get my existing number transferred. But then I thought....I could just get a new number...... but....I have had the same number for about 16 years!

Do you lot always keep your number?

I get loads of PPI rubbish calls which would disappear if I got a new number but then I would have to let everyone know my new number from the doctors, to dentist to the vet, work etc and that seems like a faff.

What do you do?

21 years..! It’s a nice sequence of numbers, I feel very attached to it!

I don’t seem to get any hoax or nuisance calls, and only answer numbers I recognise or if they have left a message, I’ll call back.

betteliefsen · 14/07/2020 20:50

20 years.

Chickencalledberyl · 14/07/2020 20:52

22 years. Back in days of being presented with a list of numbers in the BTCellnet shop and being allowed to choose. I've got a great number

CatBatCat · 14/07/2020 20:55

6 years I think, when I started on contract. Before then I was on a payg dumb phone.

XFPW · 14/07/2020 20:56

5 years. Only because we were overseas for a few years before that and obviously you can’t carry numbers internationally. Have now been back 5 years and unless we go overseas again I’ll keep it. DH is the same. it took me 2 years to learn mine and I’m still not confident on DH’s. I don’t intend to make life harder for myself

dun1urkin · 14/07/2020 20:58

About 21 years. DH has had his for nearly 25.

Takingabreakagain · 14/07/2020 20:58

22 years - always had the same one.

GoneFishingAgain · 14/07/2020 20:58

22 years!

AKissAndASmile · 14/07/2020 20:58

About 18 years. I never understand it when people send the message saying 'this is my new number'. Seems like you'd only change your number if you can't afford to for some reason (it's free to transfer providers so it must be because you have had to go PAYG or something. Even then, surely they let you transfer)

exLtEveDallas · 14/07/2020 21:03

Since Nov 1996. Except when they changed the 03 code to 07. I was even able to choose which number I wanted from a small selection!

reepicheepsconscience · 14/07/2020 21:04

22 years. I got my first mobile phone just before my daughter was born.
My parents had some form of the same landline number from 1956 until 2014 when my dad died. (Started off as a four digit number, then became a six digit number as a result of a prefix being added).

Mumtumwobble · 14/07/2020 21:06

About 21 years. I’ve always had the same one.

Greenfloors · 14/07/2020 21:06

Since 1996, so 24 years! My number used to start 09xx, Before the 7 was introduced years later Smile. Also in the days you could look at the boxes and choose your own phone number.

LadyCatStark · 14/07/2020 21:07

11 years since I went onto o2. We’ve been saying we’ll leave o2 for about 11 years too 🙈

SockQueen · 14/07/2020 21:08

Got my first mobile phone relatively late, in 2003, but had the same number since then.

Elmo230885 · 14/07/2020 21:08

18 years!

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 14/07/2020 21:08

22 years. I’m taking it to the grave. Get very few spam calls.

frog22 · 14/07/2020 21:08

I've had mine for 20 years too. It's a nice and easy to remember number so I don't want to change it.

Iggly · 14/07/2020 21:09

21 years! It’s my first and only ever mobile number. Never changing it

WhatamessIgotinto · 14/07/2020 21:18

About 18 years I think.

MrsTumbletap · 14/07/2020 21:20

So everyone on here is a number keeper!

I suppose the only benefit would be not receiving the annoying calls about PPI and surveys. But most of you have magically managed to avoid those.

WildRosie · 14/07/2020 21:20

Mobile - 21 years. Landline - 20 years.

Not mobile number but my family farm has had the same number since 1947.

3 digits till about 30 years ago when it went to 6. My gran still grumbles about that.

The farm is 485, the next door farm, 486, the village school, 487, the post office 488. If your number begins with a 5 you're a real newbie.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 14/07/2020 21:23

This number about 10 years since I was 17.
The number before that my brother has now.
The number before that my dad has now.
