Does anyone remember this 80s/90s picture book about a family of dragons?

It's a very vague memory but I know I loved reading the book (or possibly books, there may have been several) at school in the early 90s. There were no people in them, just an anthropomorphised dragon family wearing clothes, going to school etc. They were a similar level to to the Allan Ahlberg books, but definitely a different author. Lovely colourful pictures.

I've googled the heck out of it but to no avail - I just don't have enough detail to do a good search. I think it needs someone to go "Yes! I remember that!", hence giving in and posting here Smile

@TenShortStories - There may be a primary school teacher reading this who has Ginn Key Comprehension book 2 on their shelf?
Most of the fiction extracts used therein reference the name and author of the source material.
As I said, it is a longshot but something about your clues made me recall that particular story.

‘Dinwald the Dragon’ by Frank Endersby & Celia Barlow - a Medici book.

TenShortStories · 10/07/2020 17:30

Not Dinwald the Dragon but that sort of thing, it's very similar.

@rosegoldwatcher I found an online version on the Ginn Key book you mean. I can see the contents page says "page 20 - Dragon Breath", but when I scroll to that page it's the only one missing from the book Grin. I will do some more digging, thanks for the idea.

@TenShortStories - yes, me too!

I used to have my own copy of each of the Key Comp series but left them in school when I retired. Gah!

GreyGardens88 · 10/07/2020 17:46

I have vague memories of either reading a book or watching a show about a dragon that outgrew it's home and I think it lived in a house Confused

This would have been very early 90s

Clearyweary · 10/07/2020 18:05

Puff the magic dragon? The only one I remember form the 80’s!

TenShortStories · 10/07/2020 18:19

Not puff, but thank you anyway!

Samster45 · 11/07/2020 01:06

The littlest dragon books by Margaret Ryan? They were published in the early 90s though and part of a reading scheme?

Lifeisconfusing · 11/07/2020 01:11

Was it Dylan ???? The dinosaur and his 101 thousand mile an hour sneeze or something

Wasn't a picture book but like full prose with a couple of drawings. I read them when I was like 8

TenShortStories · 11/07/2020 02:12

The dinosaurs TV show was funny! Not that though.

Not the Margaret Graves or Margaret Ryan books, and not Dylan the dinosaur. Thanks for the ideas folks, I love that everyone remembers something similar sounding. Fingers crossed it'll pop up soon!

Quirrelsotherface · 12/07/2020 22:32

Did you dream it? Grin

bringmelaughter · 12/07/2020 22:47

The green smoke series by Rosemary Manning?

TenShortStories · 13/07/2020 00:59

@Quirrelsotherface Oh gosh, don't say that! I am very confident that the book existed, although it is getting harder to focus on the pictures that i remember the more I think about them, rather like with a dream Grin

@bringmelaughter The Rosemary Manning books sound good but sadly aren't the ones. Not those ones either @poptypingchef. Thanks both of you though!

Our local fire service, (Oxfordshire,) publish a range of fire/road/other safety books based on Drago the Dragon and his family. Ds has some published from the early 2000s but there may have been older editions. Could those be it?
