Someone is turning on our outside tap

I think someone is coming into our back garden. Today and Sunday morning , the garden tap has been turned on and the hose adaptor pulled off so it is spraying on the floor until we notice.
On Sunday I thought that we had left it turned on (with the hose attached we wouldn't know ) as the hose and adaptor were on the floor nearby and maybe the pressure made it come off. But its happened again and I know for sure we have not turned the tap on, and the adaptor seems to be missing.

What's going on?! We have had a new fence and gate recently so it is high and sturdy. The only other way someone could get in is via next doors garden, then climbing on things to get over that lower fence Confused

We have known of 2 occasions in the past (we have lived here a year) where someone has 100% been in the garden because the plastic shed lid was left up. But we had our old rickety fence and broken gate back then. Someone kicked it in we think as it was hanging off anyway so we had no gate for a couple of weeks. We haven't had that problem since getting the new fence up as they wouldn't be able to get in now. (There was a footprint on the gate when we first had it put up, so some one tried to kick it down, but had nothing of the sort for a few months.
We also put up security lights In that area.
Next step, we will get a camera! Why would someone do this?

I'd shut if off from the valve inside.

GrinGrin I've been in stitches over this thread. Although I will add I wouldn't put it past one of my cats to be able to turn a tap on.

@Gulsink

Typical, just when you've ruled out the foxes and magpies, it turns out it could be a horse. Confused
Properly made me chuckle!

I've never seen a Sea Monkey myself but they must have opposable thumbs and I believe people are releasing them into the wild. Could it be a troop of these? Grin

Well OP, any updates? I'm really invested in this thread!

@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat oh god, don't cross the streams! Grin

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/07/2020 09:33

I wouldn’t put a tap lock on in case it was a homeless person needing a drink

Oh Lawd not this again. By this rationale, you should allow access to your kitchen so the homeless can make themselves a snack and your shower so they can get clean. Otherwise youre just a heartless monster.

Oh, and what about all the people who dont have taps outside? what about them- are they sociopaths who dont care about the homeless?

Put a lock on that bloody thing OP!

Northernsoullover · 10/07/2020 09:43

The gluing someone to your house comment actually made me laugh out loud. This is rare. I am not a tea spitter. Best thread in ages.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 10/07/2020 15:05

Did you ever solve this OP?

HappyHammy · 10/07/2020 15:22

Any update yet. You could smother it with vaseline or chilli oil.

SpacePug · 12/07/2020 10:33

So it didn't happen again until Saturday morning, the tap was again turned on and hose pulled off. So DH has now fitted 2 cameras, one pointing at the gate and one at the back door/directly next to the tap. This morning had several alerts pop up for movement but all were flies or a cute hedgehog. So, time will tell! The tap was turned on weds morning, sunday morning and then Saturday morning. So I'm assuming it will happen again this week sometime!

We haven't put a lock on the tap as my dad said maybe it would antagonise them to do something worse, so have left it alone for now. I'm curious but also a bit nervous to see a person creeping around our garden at night

MrsPerfect12 · 12/07/2020 15:08

I hope the cameras are not visible so you can see who it is. Such a weird thing to do.

KitchenConfidential · 12/07/2020 15:13

Will be very curious to know who or what it is!

insancerre · 12/07/2020 15:41

I am disappointed you didn’t choose the superglue option
Now, that would have been a thread worthy of classics

SpacePug · 12/07/2020 15:46

😂😂 the superglue option would have been a very entertaining watch, wouldn't fancy facing them in the morning though!

We kept fo finding one of our taps on and the water running.
Cats were using it as a launch pad to get on the wall and turning it on with their paws by accident.

KetoPenguin · 12/07/2020 16:06

I am interested to find out what happens

daisychain1620 · 12/07/2020 23:31

I can't wait to hear what's doing this! I've been thinking of you and your tap all weekend lol. I've clearly got too much time on my hands 🤣

I am totally over-invested in this thread now! I hope you find the culprit soon. Are the cameras really obvious, tho?

GhostTypeEevee · 13/07/2020 00:28

I think the only logical explanation is that you have have Borrowers in your garden who indeed some water
