Will we be able to go to Ireland in August?

We want to have a week's family holiday in August but at the moment the ROI has a 14 day quarantine on visitors arriving there from abroad.

Does anyone have any idea whether they might change that in the next few weeks?

Any intel would be gratefully received.

It's up for review on july 20th so you won't have any update before then unfortunately.

I honestly thought that UK and Ireland had a no quarantine arrangement already.

@Frazzled2207 I think coming from Ireland to U.K. we don’t have to quarantine but you do if you’re coming into ROI from mainland Britain.

I think you do have to quarantine entering the ROI everyone except entering from NI.

The common travel area doesn’t affect this

You 100% have to quarantine coming to Ireland, even from the UK.

As pp said, it’s up for review later in the month though.

It got confusing because for a while entering UK from ROI was ok with no quarantine while quarantine was still needed entering U.K. from other EU countries, this has since been relaxed.

However, entering ROI always required quarantine

There is no legal obligation to quarantine on arrival in Ireland. The only obligation is to fill in the form stating where you're staying. They are advising people to quarantine for 14 days but that's all it is, advice.

I think it would be rude not to follow the advice though. And I'm Irish living in Britain & would love to be able to go over as we usually do, so I do hope the advice changes

Thanks all. A friend of mine (with family in ROI but he's not Irish) told me he just got the ferry there and drove off and all was fine.

Wonder if getting a corona test the day before we go would be a good thing?

Will see what they say on the 20th.

As pp's have said, you are meant to quarantine if coming from Britain, but not from NI. Unfortunately, there is no enforcement or follow up. It may have changed by August.

While this won't make any difference officially, as someone living in Ireland, I would be grateful to you for doing that. Many of us are very frustrated with the lack of enforcement of quarantine.

I'm from southern Ireland. A tourist town. Lots of english and Americans around. A lot of attractions require advance booking.the pubs are only serving drink if you are eating. The weather hasn't been great. Anything you need help with feel free to pm me

We are waiting to see what happens on July 20th. If we go we will definitely get a corona test just before we leave - if it's positive we obviously won't go and if it's negative we will be able to show people our email saying so.

We don't want to get there and have people tell us to go home - that would be awful! And defeat the object of a nice week away.

We can cancel and get all our money back and go elsewhere in the UK, but we really want to go to Ireland!

So we shall see.

@Literallynoidea - don't be surprised if you don't get much of a welcome though. There have been reports of restaurants refusing service to tourists, mainly US or UK, unless they can show they've done the recommended 14 days quarantine.

It really depends on how things progress over the next few weeks.

We would love to take our kids to see their grandparents in Ireland in August having missed our trip that was booked for Easter. But honestly I would never forgive myself if we brought the virus with us and passed it on to family and friends. We would definitely quarantine if we were going.

We are going from Belfast to the south for our honeymoon in August and I’m worried now because DFiance is English, I don’t want people to think we’ve come from the UK and be horrible. Getting so sick of this now, the virus has spoiled our wedding and our original honeymoon and now I’m worried about this too!Sad

People are angry at tourists being allowed in freely (while there are still some mind boggling restrictions in place) so I would say it's not unlikely that you'll come across that attitude.

We've just booked a ferry to Ireland.

We're Irish and were hoping to visit family in Dublin.

The regulations say that you need to self isolate for 14 days.

So we're going to holiday in Northern Ireland instead, as there is free movement between Britain and NI.

A week covering Belfast, Derry, giants causeway and whatever else we fancy.

But the Republic is pretty much a non starter and we're happy to respect that.

OP, the 4th phase has been pushed back so I think you’d be better off looking off elsewhere.
