Has anyone been to a pub or restaurant this weekend?

And if so - what was it like?
Was the atmosphere strange? We’re they run off their feet?

Am very tempted to book my favourite restaurant as a treat next week but wondering if it actually will feel like a treat or just be strange.

Yes I went out for a pub lunch yesterday and then also out for dinner last night. Both places were comp!early normal, lovely atmosphere and it was so nice to get out for an evening.

EasilyDelighted · 05/07/2020 19:30

Pub garden for a drink today. Normal apart from a one way system in the pub (in one door out another) and only one person at the bar at a time. Was nice to be back.

Overseasmom100 · 05/07/2020 19:31

No. Not really felt the need but may pop next week out side if weather nice

SauvignonBlanche · 05/07/2020 19:32

No chance!

Onesipmore · 05/07/2020 19:36

Yes, went for dinner at our local last night. There was sanitiser and perspex screens between tables and they had arranged socially distanced tables in the garden. All the staff wee vigilant and wore masks. The atmosphere was brilliant. I took my dd 19 for a drink at lunchtime in the sunny garden - was really nice and no risk whatsoever .

Still can’t bring myself to eat in anywhere at the moment but I’m quite an anxious person so probably an overreaction

Glittertwins · 05/07/2020 19:57

Sat outside at canal side café for brunch this morning, very civilised 🙂

Beebeet · 05/07/2020 19:59

Went out for Sunday lunch, they only had seating outside though and you had to pre order. It was weird but also nice.

Delatron · 05/07/2020 19:59

I’m happy outside, have been to outdoor pub gardens and we were served outside. Not quite ready to sit inside yet!

frog22 · 05/07/2020 20:00

No, based on my circumstances it's a risk I don't want to take at the moment. I'm glad things are starting to open up again as I know many business owners are struggling.

Rosapilosa · 05/07/2020 20:03

Yes - the staff were amazing, the tables were so spaced out, separate entrance and exit system. There was also a toilet system in place as the bathroom was quite small. It was so so so nice to eat out and feel a bit normal.

Bookaholic73 · 05/07/2020 20:04

No, I don’t want to risk it for another few weeks at least.

PhilCornwall1 · 05/07/2020 20:07

Yes, we went to our favourite Saturday afternoon bar for a couple of drinks, it was great to be back there. Whilst it wasn't the normal it used to be, the staff were brilliant and we couldn't have felt more comfortable there.

Whilst I should technically still be shielding (I haven't done the full shield throughout any of this), we just needed a bit of normal, so completely happy to be back to our almost normal Saturday.

quarentini · 05/07/2020 20:08

Out for lunch yesterday at a local bistro.
It felt safe and it was great to be out

byvirtue · 05/07/2020 20:08

We went to the pub yesterday and a restaurant today. It was a bit miserable to be honest all the “rules” just suck the fun out of it.

Had to have our temperature taken, follow a one way systems, staff were so hands off it was difficult to get good service, didn’t end up having dessert as they just left us to it after our main course.

We are going to try somewhere else next weekend but if service is poor we probably won’t bother again. Happy to spend the money for a good experience but not to have the joy sucked out of it.

meow1989 · 05/07/2020 20:10

No, though we have been having a weekly take away throughout lockdown (that'll account for the weight gain then...). We did have a take away tea from a farm over the weekend but that was more to do with entry being free and wanting to support the buisness.

Locally there were queues outside pubs and first fights reported by 11.30 am, and I live in a fairly naice area too.

Personally I dont think I'll be going to a restaurant or pub for quite a long time yet.

Cloverforever · 05/07/2020 20:14

I did today and it felt just like normal, but more of a treat iyswim.

roses2 · 05/07/2020 20:38

I haven't but went on a walk in London past many restaurants and bars. Most looked dead with only around 25% normal capacity - it was really sad to see.

Titsywoo · 05/07/2020 20:43

Yes I did. It was very well done. Seperate entrance and exit, disposable menus, every table and chair fully wiped down between parties, lots of space between tables. Was lovely to be out. For what is normally a very busy and buzzing restaurant it was so quiet at 50% capacity that it did lack atmosphere but not much can be done about that!

Ulrikaka · 05/07/2020 20:52

Restaurant for lunch. Lots of social distancing measures in place. I feel it is very unnecessary, but obviously there are lots of anxious people, so for now, this is normal. Food was fab and I was just delighted to be eating out, though doubt I will do so as often as I used to for a while.

Imadreamer44 · 05/07/2020 20:55

Yes, it was far better than I anticipated and so lovely to be out!
This was a mid range chain in a town centre. We sat in the garden to the rear so v low risk. Lots of cleaning happening and staff following regulations without it ruining the experience.

PurBal · 05/07/2020 20:55

We tried in order to support our local businesses. Waited for 20 minutes and the queue didn't move. Decided to go home and open a bottle of wine.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/07/2020 20:58

Yes, dinner last night and pub this lunchtime. Both busy but well spaced. Lovely atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed both. Going again in week

Vodkacranberryplease · 05/07/2020 21:01

Pub today. A local (north London) but very popular one with several levels of outdoor space, lovely planting etc. From getting there (no queue) then temperatures taken, names on track and trace, shown to a nice table and drinks straight away.

Bliss. Pure bliss.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2020 21:05

Yes, I posted earlier about this. Was weird for first ten minutes and then it was bloody great. Honestly felt even though it was really quiet very comfortable.

So good to have a beer and a meal. Felt so much normal for first time in months.
