Has anyone been to a pub or restaurant this weekend?

And if so - what was it like?
Was the atmosphere strange? We’re they run off their feet?

Am very tempted to book my favourite restaurant as a treat next week but wondering if it actually will feel like a treat or just be strange.

Yes, drinks last night at a country pub in the Cotswolds. Had to book and were served at our outdoor table but it was lovely to go out. No meals out yet but we don’t eat out much unless on holiday so nothing different there

Yes Sunday lunch. Hardly any difference. Im surprised to read about places taking temperatures.

Yep, went to a tiki bar, happy hour cocktails. It was awesome to be out with the girls again x

Yes - yesterday lunch outside at our village pub for food and drinks. It was sadly very quiet, we went primarily out of a desire to support a very well loved local family business, I hope it picks up for them, it would be a crying shame to lose such a great pub. The staff and social distancing measures were brilliant.

Yes we’ve just got back. They had a lot more tables outside. We ate inside and there were less tables than usual as they’d obviously taken some out. You had to book online. There was hand sanitiser in various locations. They had disposable menus. They also had some of their childrens activities closed. It was actually pretty much full, good atmosphere, staff friendly and happy. We had a really good time other than ordering more than usual and having a bit of a shock when our bill arrived!!

Yes. Last night we went for a wander and went into a pub which was just lovely. Escorted to a seat and staff dealt with everything very well. Nothing was OTT and it felt normal.

This evening went out to a very early dinner in a pub. Similar experience.

Had there been screens, temperatures being taken etc then we would have just gone home. That would have been a pointless, soul-less exercise.

Staff in both cases very grateful to be back at work in a job.

No, I live in Wales so all shut up!

Stefoscope · 06/07/2020 09:57

Yes, it was quieter than pre-lockdown but I prefer that to be honest. Other than being greeted at the door and having the changes explained, it was no diiferent to normal. We're planning on going back to eating out at least once a week now.

Still not open where I live... But I've made a couple of bookings for restaurants. My thinking is that when they first open everyone is going to be vigilant - staff and customers - paying attention to hygiene, following policies and guidance. I think the bigger risk comes once everyone relaxes into it and starts to get sloppy. Then I won't be going.

PinkFondantFancy · 06/07/2020 11:19

Yep, sat outside at local restaurant. Was lovely, no masks or perspex, just fewer tables. Will be doing it again tonight too

Carolduckingbaskin · 06/07/2020 14:05

Ok so mixed reviews - think I’m going to give it a go during the week!

We didn't, but we're going this Saturday. It's our wedding anniversary.

For me we know that the risk inside is greater than outside. I remember seeing the diagram of how the virus spread around the tables of a restaurant indoors. So all the hand gel and hygiene in the world won’t stop that. So you are going to the restaurant on the assumption that nobody else in the restaurant is infected. Which is probably an accurate assumption at the moment as cases are so low. Maybe the spread out tables will help a bit I guess and the social distancing. The problem is that you will be indoors with lots of people for at least an hour or so.

Whereas outdoors the virus won’t spread from table to table therefore the need for the hygiene and handgel is more important.
