Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

@Paradiseinportugal

It's the Red riding hood virus Please can we have a like button just for this.
I agree. I would love a like button! I might give the FWR threads more of an explore now I know some of you are on there. I've always been really scared but I guess I only really see those threads that blow up so probably not a fair reflection.

Spoke to DM today. She was genuinely fretful and guilty that at the weekend, she saw DSis and her children and gave them all hugs. She thought that this was allowed under the new rules and then had found out that they should have been social distancing and was feeling really quite awful about this Sad

We had a very long chat and I have made it clear that when we see each other (soon, I hope), there will be hugs from everyone and no bloody leaping into cupboards to avoid one another. And that the rules are not laid down by the Almighty but are different everywhere because each government is doing what it believes to be the best. And that the risks of her having had a hug with two of her grandchildren (neither of whole have left the house in weeks, and in fact none of the people there have been anywhere but the supermarket in weeks anyway) are far, far outweighed by the huge benefits to all concerned.

I think I made her feel a bit better. But fuck me, what are we doing to people? What are the costs of this going to be, leaving a woman frightened and guilty - really guilty! - to have held her grandchildren for the first time in months?

RubberDinghyRapids · 06/07/2020 22:38

Ah thanks. Knew it was likely that but kept coming up with odd combinations in my head.

I sometimes poke my head in the door but they all seem very clever and sure of themselves so I back out again, impressed but intimidated Blush

HesterShaw1 · 06/07/2020 22:39

Evening all. I have caught up.

First day back at work was long and exhausting! But at least I got to see some new faces. Speaking coherently was a touch challenging at times. See what lockdown does to the brain?

I was shocked to read of the NHS dumbfuckery a few pages back. This is simply not good enough. I've said all along that the phrase "protect the NHS " is such bullshit. What's the point of protecting something at the expense of its raisin d'être i.e protecting us?

Please may I join the FB group? @InsaneInTheViralMembrane will vouch for me 😁

HesterShaw1 · 06/07/2020 22:40

Thanks, wanker autocorrect for changing raison to raisin!

Now I look both pretentious AND stupid

TheGreatWave · 06/07/2020 22:42

Ahhh so it was wolves spreading the virus all along.

One of my childhood recurring nightmares involved being chased through woods by wolves (and then somehow ending up at the local library, which at the time made perfect sense). So I go to see The Secret Life of Pets 2 and then features wolves chasing in woods and now I have Red Riding Hood, the wolf and coronavirus all to add to the mix as well.

Fantastic - so tonight I will be pulling an all-nighter then. Grin

Oh no rubber. I post on FWR a lot and not educated at all.

I love raisin d'être.

My raisin d'être is wine, fighting the NHS (I lost) has ruined my dry July 😭

Paradiseinportugal · 06/07/2020 23:03

@RubberDinghyRapids
As previous posters have said Feminism and Women's rights.
Yes they can appear to be terrifying. They're not, the women that post there regularly are extremely well informed about the rights of Women and girls. And they are very concerned about the attempted erasure of those rights.
Not for this thread though, go and have a read and a look at various threads.
So the second wave will be Grandma, no wonder I didn't want to be called Grandma, that's my mother's family name. Not mine.

torydeathdrug · 06/07/2020 23:04

I’m watching MASH. I wanted to be Hawkeye when I was a kid (either him or Bones McCoy from Star Trek). Dh has never seen it so I’m schooling him 😆 god I’m going to feel ill tomorrow.

Fabulous full moon tonight ideal for the virus wolf to be stalking people visiting the vulnerable

fartingsparkles · 06/07/2020 23:34

Hello and welcome @orchid

Love the equations, RRH virus and the fb group!

The phrase ringing in my ears over the last few days was kicked off by Johnson's New Deal speech I think. FDR's quote "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself" sums up so much of this whole situation.

I am having a little boast now though. Today has been a lovely, normal day! Washing out on the line this morning. We met up with friends this afternoon. Adults chatted, kids ran round and played. Then a quick trip to asda, originally for petrol, but as there was no queue to get in, we took the opportunity. Came out with new school shoes and new pj's amongst a strange selection of other items. Home, and big sparkles agreed to try cheesy risotto for dinner - kid hasn't eaten rice for damn years! Recently got him on boiled rice with bbq sauce stirred through. So I made it, fully prepared for a struggle. He ate it all up, declared it very yum, and wants to have it again! Baby sparkles cleaned the plate too! I was shocked and stunned! But it was a good end to a good day.

Sorry for that sheer amount of waffle!

Spudlet that's so very sad, you're right. What the fuck is happening when human beings feel that they cannot hug or give comfort to another human being. It's shit. I hope that your mum felt better after talking to you.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2020 23:41

I really haven't got my head around people wanting government permission to hug their loved ones.

Life happens. Death happens. There will be thousands that end up kicking themselves because they chose not to hug each other and time ran out anyway. I'd rather take any opportunity for a hug while it's there.

@littlbrowndog I'm the same as you. I really miss Lang Cleg though. She was ace and as sharp as a tack on safeguarding

Absolutely

I'm very introvert, live alone and often (even BCV) spend days without contact with others but what is the point in continuing to live, breathe, eat, sleep and clean if you never have contact with anyone else.

There's not a lot of point to life (as an elder) in the first place, without human contact there is none.

PickAChew · 06/07/2020 23:51

Second fucking wave needs to fuck off until after my birthday, if it's in October.

Lockdown has seriously strained my relationship with dh. It can at least give us time to tolerate each other for our mutual birthday season.

@iaimtentdead not sure why I can't quote you but I'm an extreme introvert and pretty snagged between never having had an empty house in almost 4 months and not having anything more than a purely functional natter with someone.

You can't quote a quoter 😁

Oh yes. I very quickly get touched out - having someone in the same house for too long - even if not in the same room and I've had enough.

Great to see friends - great to see them go home again.

It's all fine when it's my choice. Not being able to see or spend time with someone else, NO NO NO

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2020 00:23

DH has been in near constantly for 16+ weeks.
We are actually still married even after 2 haircuts.
I'm finding it so hard to concentrate on what the DCs talk about, and that's rubbish because 99+% og the time it either their DB, me or DH. I'm just mindblown by the monotony. It's not natural to have that extent of constant company.

It's much easier when we go out. I found that right fron the baby days. There's just so much more stimulation.

If nothing else, at least the DCs can't get lost within 3 miles of our house from all the walking!
