What's en vogue with 10yo girls these days?

I need to buy a birthday present for my goddaughter but I think my usual reliance on dresses and Jaqueline Wilson books probably isn't going to cut it now she's so grown up. Are there any super cool trends I should know about, or anything that's been a smash hit with yours?

Thanks!

Mine likes Harry Potter, bath bombs, slime, Dr Who, squishies, Wimpy Kid, and the Murder most Unladylike books.

louisethedisease · 26/06/2020 20:32

Harry Potter everything

RickOShay · 26/06/2020 20:35

Squiggle is good. I got some for my 10 yr old niece for Christmas.
It’s nice to buy. Smile

OohKittens · 26/06/2020 20:38

My daughter is just 10 she loves making friendship bracelets (there is a klutz set on amazon), embroidery, calligraphy pens, fimo clay, socks.

ClaudiaWankleman · 26/06/2020 20:40

Harry Potter pjs

Iliketeaagain · 26/06/2020 21:18

Lego friends, Lego dots.
Stationery, but not from smiggle (for 8 and under according to my dd), but from typo or paper chase.

If she's in to toiletries, then something from lush.

Or a primark or new look Voucher with the promise to take her shopping when things open up including lunch in 5 guys... my dd loved that for her 10th birthday, she spent about 45 minutes in primark deciding what to spend her £25 on.

winterisstillcoming · 26/06/2020 21:19

Anything a little bit grown up. Does she have a phone? If so then some accessories, board games, bath bombs, embroidery kits.

HalleLouja · 26/06/2020 21:22

I bought my 9 year old some personalised make up bags and Body Shop smellies. That was a hit as well as a bath bomb making kit.

Isadora2007 · 26/06/2020 21:23

Can vary a lot at that age tbh. I’d ask her mum. Like others have said- some love smiggle and others think it’s babyish. My 22 year old loves cropped tops and Adidas clothing but she’s sporty whereas her friends like youtubers And scrunchies and water bottles that cost a fortune. It’s very individual...

TickledOnion · 26/06/2020 21:29

Not smiggle, slime or unicorns unless they are quite a young 10.
Klutz craft kits are really good. Stuff to do with baking or primark vouchers would probably be good. If they are into Harry Potter then there’s loads of options but check first.

SallyWD · 26/06/2020 21:35

My DD is about to turn 10. Her interests are surprisingly not at all grown up! She loves slime including making slime (God knows why!), anything unicorn related, books such as Tom Gates, David Walliams and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. She loves watching DVDs so I've been buying her films from my childhood as well as recent releases. She likes art and craft sets.

perfectpanda · 26/06/2020 21:37

Mine are loving rubix cubes / snakes / triangles..

OohKittens · 26/06/2020 21:43

Yes also agree with older films. My daughter had the following for her birthday- maid marion box set, whistle down the wind, secret of frog dreaming, clue (her all time favourite film).
Also wreck this journal she is obsessed with.

JMAngel1 · 26/06/2020 21:49

It's all about Roblox with my DD 10 so maybe roblox voucher?

SkaterGrrrrl · 27/06/2020 00:03

Harry Potter
Minecraft
Smiggle
Teen Titans
Lego
Bake Off

chubbyhotchoc · 27/06/2020 00:16

A lush gift set is a safe bet

GetRid · 27/06/2020 00:21

Don't buy Harry potter stuff unless you're sure she's into it. My 10yo isn't. Smiggle is also a bit babyish for some. Other stationery or craft things or board games or book token are safer bets, though I'd still check!

SionnachRua · 27/06/2020 00:27

Scrunchies
Vsco stickers
Stationery
Lush
Roblox
Lego kits (those ones where you build something specific like a Ferris wheel)

There's a huge range among 10 year olds though so I would ask the parents.

TeamLannister · 27/06/2020 00:27

My 10 year old still loves Harry Potter but she wouldn't be keen on getting anything related for a present. She also hates unicorns, Lush and has no interest in stationery, although she does love books. She mostly loves xbox gift cards so she can buy rubbish for Roblox and would love merch from her favourite you-tuber. Also anything to do with Greek mythology.
