What's en vogue with 10yo girls these days?

I need to buy a birthday present for my goddaughter but I think my usual reliance on dresses and Jaqueline Wilson books probably isn't going to cut it now she's so grown up. Are there any super cool trends I should know about, or anything that's been a smash hit with yours?

Thanks!

My DD loves little mix, Ariana grande, make up and nail varnish (kids sets) and "pampering", plus unicorns, bath bombs, stories, large dolls (American Girl type) and their accessories, and clothes from H and M, plus a YouTuber called Mariah Elisabeth who makes squishies.

What do 10-year-old girls like? I don't know. What do 30-year-old girls like? If you don't know her that well as a person, give money. She won't mind that!

KindKylie · 27/06/2020 00:43

I think it v much depends on the 10 yr old!

My 10 yr old would be v happy with Jacqueline Wilson and dresses! She loves reading and so would appreciate a book voucher or amazon voucher for audible or kindle. She loves clothes, socks, pj's etc. She'd be happy with Harry Potter stuff, stationary esp letter writing kits, lego. Craft kits aren't really her thing but a voucher for something like pottery painting would go down well.

Nice bag for sleepovers? Personalised pillowcase, pj's, washbag, midnight feast kit...

RedTitsMcGinty · 27/06/2020 00:59

Minecraft, modelling clay, Harry Potter, Lottie Dolls, Lego, science kits, mystery books, Artemis Fowl, Northern Lights, detective/spy stuff, Lush bath products, art supplies.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/06/2020 01:06

I think you now know the answer.
Talk to her or her parents. My GD is the same age, she loves books, crafting and stationary - but not Lush it would trigger her hayfever

Lilymossflower · 27/06/2020 01:24

Claire's

Yester · 27/06/2020 01:32

My 10 year old dd loves art, baking, football and fecking fortnite.

FuckItForAPackofBiscuits · 27/06/2020 01:47

Ruby redfort books
Roblox vouchers
Amazon voucher
T-shirt with arsey text like - I stopped my game to be here - No butterflies or unicorn shite.
Wreck this journal.
Cash
No clothes - boring.
Sweets: like a massive choc bar or strawberry laces!
Cool stuff for pc; like stickers or funky mouse
Jacqueline W still welcome
Harry Potter done - read and watched multiple times so if you are a fan all had been read and watch on that front. Nothing else needed.
Klutz friendship bracelets.
Beano subscription - best comic around.

IdblowJonSnow · 27/06/2020 01:53

Paperchase stationary or some nice jewellery from notonthehighstreet.com? There is quite a bit in the £10-20 price range.

maybelou · 27/06/2020 01:55

I adopted a sea turtle for my niece's birthday, I think at school they must be looking at conservation because she's really into saving the planet and animals at the moment which is amazing! The pack from WWF sends out a cuddly toy and stickers with letters and information and stuff, she really liked it and it's something I'm really happy to be supporting as well so win/win! 😁

Emmapeeler1 · 27/06/2020 09:45

plus a YouTuber called Mariah Elisabeth who makes squishies My DD has been addicted to this during lockdown...

Valambtine · 27/06/2020 10:08

@Emmapeeler1
I got a t shirt from Moriah Elizabeth's "merch" (as DD says) for dd's birthday. She was incredibly excited and now appears to be somewhat of a celebrity among her friends for having a genuine ME t shirt. It was less than 20 quid 😁

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 27/06/2020 10:11

My 10 year old is soooo over unicorns and sparkly stuff.

She is definitely finding her own vibe and so it might be better to ask the parent what your god daughter is into.

Mine likes make up, hair accessories, tik tok and Bardot style tops with leggings. I’m secretly very Impressed that she no longer wants ‘girlie things’ and is embracing black in her wardrobe.

Emmapeeler1 · 27/06/2020 10:12

Wow, I can totally imagine the street cred! Grin

Avebury · 27/06/2020 11:37

Nano dots, hair dryer, tattoo pens, hair chalk and a game called Throw Throw Burrito all hits here

QuimReaper · 27/06/2020 17:01

Oh wow, thank you all so much! I'll have to Google 80% of the words on this thread but I'm sure some will be great Grin

I WISH she were into Harry Potter Angry I've been patiently waiting but she read the first one and lost interest. Philistine.

Moriah Elizabeth merch- can be very £££
Lush bath bombs
Hoodies
Hydro flasks
Stationery but not from smiggle (thats so 9yr old apparently)

BeFire · 27/06/2020 17:09

Enormous hoodies a la Billie Eilish in this house Confused Grin .
Smiggle, unicorns and glitter are all out.
Robux would also be acceptable.

QuimReaper · 27/06/2020 17:17

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName That sounds like her! She's certainly gone a bit precociously goth - last year I got her black nail varnish and a pencil case that said "Not all monsters do monstrous things" as my friend (her ma) told me she loved that quote and wanted it on her bedroom wall Grin That's really why I'm looking for inspiration - it was easy when she was a little girl, but now she has such individual taste, I'm wary of buying something that she would deem babyish.

FWIW I have of course tried asking her mother for guidance but she's snowed under and just doesn't seem to be looking at her phone except for work, which is completely understandable. I was just looking for some inspiration.

Slime
Roblox
Nails
Hoodies
Leggings
Trainers
iPod case
Junior Fitbit

QuimReaper · 27/06/2020 17:21

@BeFire a hoodie has the advantage of some latitude in fit! I've looked at Smiggle and I'm not sure it's very her. 10 is such a difficult age, I think she still has a lingering fondness for some childhood stuff whilst having loads of more grownup tastes at the same time, so whilst the unicorn/glitter stuff could work, it seems less likely to hit the mark.

OP posts:
Santasunhelpfulhelper · 27/06/2020 17:33

I agree, I’d avoid glitter and unicorns unless you know she likes them.

Avebury · 27/06/2020 17:41

Swingball or badminton set for the garden given most people are spending a lot more time at home at the moment

TooGood2BeTrue · 27/06/2020 17:54

Nice baseball / sun cap, stylish playsuit, bottle garden (or all the nits so she can make it herself), audiobooks, hairbands from Claire or Accessorize, beach towel, flipflops, sunglasses, fountain pen or gel pens, dream catcher, fairy lights, clock, watch.
