Mysterious dent in thigh

Hi this is so random but a few weeks ago I noticed a dent are the top of my left thigh. You can actually see it if wearing tight jeans and feel the dip if you run your finger over it. It is about a finger long, no pain or anything. Has anyone ever had this randomly occur?!

Thank you so much for your reply, I’m going to share this with my sister!

Notanotherwindow · 02/12/2022 21:37

Yes. I finally realised that it was from the shelf under my counter at work when I was on tills and used to absent mindedly lean against it.

Hi, do you mind me asking how long it took for yours to disappear? I’ve recently developed this (about 4 weeks ago) and also think it’s from leaning on the vanity unit. I also have health anxiety and am feeling really worried about it x

Leahjhx · 02/02/2024 18:52

I have this too on both thighs, have you seen anyone about it?x

I’m so happy I looked this up!! I’ve developed deep, noticeable dents on both of my thighs for months and could not figure it out until I found this thread. After reading the posts and possible causes, I’m able to pinpoint the culprit as my toddler’s bed frame from IKEA (I still love it). I lean against it when I’m changing or dressing him, so as of today I’ll be more mindful and hopefully see some changes

Hello

KazzaW14 · 22/09/2024 16:21

did you find out what was causing the indentation on your thigh? I have one and am waiting for blood test and ultrasound

Lana6566 · 18/01/2025 21:13

did you ever find out what it was? I found myself in a similar situation. Been getting health anxiety over it.. lol hope your tests and scans went well.

Ultra sound, doctor and physio all drew a blank but said there was no serious issue. Thanks to the posts on here, I realised I lean heavily into my desk when stood up at work in exactly the same position as the dent. So I have clearly squashed the muscles in some way. Still there but I have stopped leaning on the desk. May or May not heal but I feel I have solved the mystery.

I had this and convinced myself it was some kind of degenerative muscle wasting disease as I have health anxiety.

I later realised that when I brushed my teeth I would always lean against the bathroom vanity unit in exactly the same place and position, and this corresponded to the dent exactly! I stopped the leaning and the dent went away. Felt a bit stupid (but unfortunately not enough for the health anxiety to go away as I diagnose myself with terminal illnesses about once a month...🙄).

Perhaps there is something you are unconsciously habitually doing that causes the dent?

Same here.... I was thinking the worst, dr googling like crazy trying to find out what this could be (which led me to this platform). As soon as I read your post it all made sense. Checked it & my dent lines up perfectly with the bathroom counter. The same counter I lean on every dang morning while brushing my teeth! 😄

Glad my post helped!!

I had a really bad bruise on my thigh once and after if had gone I was left with a hollow dent in my thigh for a few months then it gradually went away.

If you have had a previous injury there, or have been exercising more then I would think this is a natural result. If there is nothing like this then I would suggest getting it checked out. It is probably nothing but there is a slight possibility something is going on internally and I think a medical professional should be consulted to put your mine at rest.

Hi IAintentdead hope this message finds you. Once you found out what was causing the bruising and dent how long did it take for each to go away? Did you do anything specific or just stopped what was causing it. Thank you!

Hi AutumnBrooke! How long did it take for the dents to go away once you stopped leaning on the sink? Did you do anything to help get rid of the dents? Any suggestions would be helpful. =)

Hi, I genuinely cant remember as once I stopped worrying about it i didn't notice it and stopped checking!

I fell over the lid of a car trailer that had fallen down and I didn't see it in the dark. The top was domed and I landed on my thigh on the the arch - so basically a piece of wood about 4 inches high and maybe half an inch thick. (It's amazing I didn't break my thigh I think). The bruising was spectacular but it did go away on it's own over about a month. The dent in my thigh was there for years. Maybe 4 or 5 years before it totally disappeared (it happened in the late 1980s so a long time ago)

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry that happened to you. Glad you got better and the area. For mine I've been leaning over my desk at work (all days during the week many times a day for what i think mayyybe a year or so) and didn't realize that's what was causing my bruising and dents until recently haha. I've been using arnica gel on the bruises in the hopes that takes care of the bruises and time. Sounds like the dents may take longer.
