Mysterious dent in thigh

Msgiggles30 · 21/06/2020 14:39

Hi this is so random but a few weeks ago I noticed a dent are the top of my left thigh. You can actually see it if wearing tight jeans and feel the dip if you run your finger over it. It is about a finger long, no pain or anything. Has anyone ever had this randomly occur?!

I've got this too! It's only since I've started doing body pump so I assumed it was some weird muscle throng as I've never had thigh muscles before

JustC · 21/06/2020 15:03

I've noticed smth like this once I started using the treadmill more often. I think it might be a combo of the muscles getting more toned, the strings between mucles( don't know the right term) and the way the body fat sets on the now more toned muscles. Hope it makes sense.

I know what you mean but I havent been doing anything in lockdown Blush. I havent gained any weight either though. Someone mentioned it could be from always shifting weight to that leg which i do tend to do. Just really odd!

I had a really bad bruise on my thigh once and after if had gone I was left with a hollow dent in my thigh for a few months then it gradually went away.

If you have had a previous injury there, or have been exercising more then I would think this is a natural result. If there is nothing like this then I would suggest getting it checked out. It is probably nothing but there is a slight possibility something is going on internally and I think a medical professional should be consulted to put your mine at rest.

Msgiggles30 · 21/06/2020 15:11

I cant get a picture of mine without flashing haha. Without being rude my legs are slimmer than this pic so sort of like this however just on one side and less deep.

I have had this in the past after an injury, was also on my thigh, however it gradually went away.

Cellulite or muscle changes

Msgiggles30 · 21/06/2020 15:13

Yes maybe ile see how it goes for a few weeks. I mean I am naturally very clumsy and am often knocking myself into tables and things so that could be likely! I noticed it about 3 weeks or so ago.

I've had "dents" in my leg due to muscle injuries in the past, but I could always identify the problems/time if happened.

I'd recommend checking with a Doctor just in case. Better safe...etc.. And you if it is exercise related then you might get some helpful guidance too.

Mrosco11 · 24/04/2021 23:02

I've got this but it is tender and had it for about 6 months it's a visible circle. Feels like a bruise but just an indent

NightmareLoon · 24/04/2021 23:06

I've got this on one side, but it's been there for years and never hurt.

AutumnBrooke · 24/04/2021 23:17

I had this and convinced myself it was some kind of degenerative muscle wasting disease as I have health anxiety.

I later realised that when I brushed my teeth I would always lean against the bathroom vanity unit in exactly the same place and position, and this corresponded to the dent exactly! I stopped the leaning and the dent went away. Felt a bit stupid (but unfortunately not enough for the health anxiety to go away as I diagnose myself with terminal illnesses about once a month...🙄).

Perhaps there is something you are unconsciously habitually doing that causes the dent?

NightmareLoon · 24/04/2021 23:22

Actually I just checked and it's gone now! How odd
AutumnBrooke · 24/04/2021 23:24

Just noticed this thread is nearly a year old!

Rosa85 · 03/05/2021 21:19

Hi, I have noticed this on my right thigh about a week ago and it’s had my head in a spin since. I’ve seen lots of posts similar to yours though which has reassured me. Can I ask if yours is still there or have you done anything about it? I have Googled the hell out of it and found a condition called lipoatrophia semicircularis.

Missey1 · 11/06/2021 19:22

I have that too. Did you find out why this happened. The doctor told me not to worry but I’m not satisfied with the answer.

JLOW1202 · 22/06/2021 15:02

This is EXACTLY what I have. So glad I'm not alone! I was getting worried

Missey1 · 22/06/2021 19:04

I went to the doctor last week and she told me to keep on eye on it. She didn’t seem too concerned. I will be getting blood work tomorrow just to make sure everything looks normal. Have you seen a doctor?
My dent is 4 fingers above my knee on my left thigh. I think it’s so weird. Could it be from crossing legs?

Missey1 · 22/06/2021 19:05

Did you find out what it is?

emyjonathan13 · 12/01/2022 22:04

Quick disclaimer, I am not a medical professional and my experience could be different from everyone else's. Best to check these things with a doctor. That said, I started noticing the mystery dent on my right thigh roughly 6 months ago. It has similar characteristics as most people have experienced. 3 months ago I had a back injury that kept me in bed for more than a month and in that time, the dent grew bigger which obviously got me worried. I have since recovered and become as active as I was pre-covid and pre-injury. Paired with a strict stretching routine and foam rolling, I have recently noticed that the dent is fading away and now almost not visible. I hope this helps someone.

Sosigsandwich · 12/01/2022 22:28

Yep, I've had mine for as long as I can remember, doesn't hurt at all.

Lopez104 · 02/04/2022 01:20

I came on here 3 months ago looking for answers because I, too, had a dent in my right thigh and didn't know why! But I wanted to come back and say that it is almost completely gone now (I can feel it slightly when I run my hand over it but it is not visible anymore)! It took 3 months! The only thing I could attribute it to was leaning against a table while doing puzzles over the Christmas holidays - it seemed to be in that exact spot where my leg met the edge of the table. Anyway, I stopped the leaning. Who knows if that was the cause but good news, if you have the same thing as me, it does eventually go away!

Jogabal · 02/12/2022 02:28

Hi there! I know you posted this ages ago but my sister just noticed she has the same thigh dent you posted about. (I stumbled upon your post while searching for what it could possibly be.) Did you ever find out what it was? Thank you! Pic included

Rosa85 · 02/12/2022 07:46

Hi Jogabal. I noticed I had this on one side a couple of years ago. I did a lot of googling and I think it’s call Lipoatrophia Semicircularis and it’s says it’s caused by trauma to the muscle.
I discovered mine and realised it’s easy probably from me sitting in a specific way while rocking my daughter to sleep. Some of the articles also suggest skinny jeans could be the culprit.
mine went away after I changed the way I put my daughter to sleep. I hope that helps!
