Am I the only one not having any holidays planned?

Feeling down and sad that everyone, especially on my social media, seems to be booking multiple holidays for later this year and next year, including several exotic ones.

DH and I were unemployed before Covid so cannot afford a foreign holiday at the moment, but I feel like we am the only ones with no holiday planned Sad

I would love a holiday to look forward to Sad

This is why I left social media! We have barely any plans. We may go to Wales if they let us in.

mbosnz · 18/06/2020 18:50

We don't. We were supposed to be going home to NZ for the first time since we moved here two years ago - now we're fighting for our money back since our flights were cancelled.

The girls were supposed to be going to Spain and Berlin for School trips - got those refunds today.

I just don't feel it's prudent to plan holidays this year - quite frankly, overseas or domestic! But oh goodness, I'm all out of ideas as to how to make 'staycation' fun after how many weeks of lockdown?!

canigooutyet · 18/06/2020 18:52

And go where?
Hotels are still closed, so is airbnb. Centre parks etc closed.
Many countries won't take flights direct from the UK, and chances are after we took it over to New Zealand this week more countries will continue. Countries we can easily go to are seeing spikes.

Rollergirl11 · 18/06/2020 18:53

We cancelled our summer holiday beginning of August a few weeks ago. I’m sad that we don’t have anything planned at the moment but I think it’s too risky to book anything abroad at the minute.

BrieAndChilli · 18/06/2020 19:02

We don’t have anything booked and didn’t even before Covid.
2 of the kids were supposed to be Going tonFrance with school next month, hoping we get that refunded.

Shinebright72 · 18/06/2020 19:02

At the minute you cannot buy travel insurance. So it’s not very wise to book right now everything is so uncertain at the moment. I suppose you could do other things like a seaside trip when it’s warmer.

A lot of people who have booked a holiday may not go anywhere this year. Once your employed again I’m sure you will be able to book a holiday too.

MayFayre · 18/06/2020 19:03

Nothing planned here. We prevaricated for ages, worrying about the impact of Brexit and then lockdown happened and we just abandoned the idea.

I don’t mind. I find holidays stressful not relaxing. Wouldn’t mind a holiday on my own at this moment , mind you.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 18/06/2020 19:04

No, nothing planned and no intention of planning anything. Not for a while anyway.

Devlesko · 18/06/2020 19:05

No, nothing planned except for staying in friends caravan if allowed into Wales.
More a social than holiday, no sightseeing or beaches.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 18/06/2020 19:07

I'm hoping to book 3 nights in a lovely apartment in Liverpool. Plan is to cook and visit beaches and local attractions (( lots to.do round there if you know where to look )) we'll be self catering and there's a balcony to.sit outside.

£230 for 3 nights midweek at the end of August. Dp works but it's all we can afford this year and I'm grateful to just have that.

Hellohah · 18/06/2020 19:08

We've not either. We were planning on booking a big holiday in June as DS does his GCSE's next year.
Unfortunately... There are rumours circulating he could be doing the exams in July/August so that's our biggie out. Wasn't going to do anything else either because of potential revision classes through the holidays. We are now vaguely considering September, but not quite sure how a new college would feel about him the first two weeks off 😢

DelurkingAJ · 18/06/2020 19:08

Nothing planned. Supposed to be going to France in late July and neither the flights nor the villa are happy to refund yet so we’re hanging on for a refund. We’re hoping to use the annual leave to see both sets of parents if that is allowed, which I’m excited about!

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/06/2020 19:09

No plans here!

lilgreen · 18/06/2020 19:11

We have nothing booked either. Be a bit foolish to book anything at the moment I think. Took me ages to get a refund for an Easter city break so not risking another cancellation or quarantine.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 18/06/2020 19:15

nothing planned
our April holiday was cancelled I'm waiting for more information on lots of things before rebooking - insurance issues, quarantine on arrival or return, what activities and restaurants will be open. I'd like a long weekend by the sea (UK) in August if we can, and a UK city break inOct half term.

mbosnz · 18/06/2020 19:16

Honestly OP, at least you're not looking at money lost! You can be all sorts of smug about that. Smile

I hope you find employment, and are able to start planning and saving towards a holiday in more certain times.

It's hard to find anything to look forward to at the moment, isn't it? I think that's one of the things I'm finding hardest.

Nanalisa60 · 18/06/2020 19:18

No o have no holidays for this year planned, I’m being careful with money as I worried about the further. I really hope I can go skiing in January but I won’t be booking until last minute.

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2020 19:20

Nothing planned.
2 holidays and 2 long weekends away cancelled recently, can’t beat to have anymore cancelled. I waiting till we have some confidence in the situation re:travelling etc before I books holiday anywhere again.

bigbluebus · 18/06/2020 19:24

Nothing planned here either. I was due to go on holiday on 15th March - 2 days before travel was stopped here - but opted not to go to what is a 3rd world country/island with very few medical facilities. We lost our money as it was classed as disinclination to travel but as things panned out I think it was the right decision. We are not planning anything else but if anything is available in this country and risks are low later in the year, we might think about a few days away. Although DH is likely to have a 20% pay cut soon and student DS can't get a summer job so we may need to fund him more next year so we might just decide to stay at home.

Roselilly36 · 18/06/2020 19:45

No holidays planned here either, written off 2020 as far as holidays are concerned.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 18/06/2020 20:51

I've written off holidays for this year.
We stayed more local last year, did the tourist stuff within a 2 hour drive and lots of days out with a local coach company too.
So this year was supposed to be Dd and I having a city break to Barcelona. Nice hotel, see the cousins, eat out a lot and do the big red bus tour. It'll wait till next summer.

redeyetonowheregood · 18/06/2020 21:02

No holidays booked here. Had been supposed to visit my dad in Spain but flights were cancelled. If we can we will go away in our caravan when sites open but if not we will cope. We never had holidays when the children were little and we were broke so I know the feeling well.

Coquohvan · 18/06/2020 21:43

OP I hope things get better for you soon. Perhaps snooze some of your FB contacts for a while.
Things have a funny way of working out all the best.

peajotter · 18/06/2020 21:47

We might go camping in the garden.

At a stretch we might camp in the grandparents’ garden.

No-one I know is booking anything.

Kez200 · 18/06/2020 21:50

I dont want to travel anywhere exotic. I want to see my children who have been working throughout this and live 150 and 300 miles away.

We are expecting our foreign holiday refund back but I was much sadder at cancelling the break to my daughter, than that one.
