I don't believe it... I've just found an envelope of cash...

About 3 years ago I took some cash to pay some builders and put it in an envelope. It went missing and I hunted high and low tearing the house apart. Eventyally I gave up and took more to pay builders. It left me short for a couple of months but managed to make it up by barely spending anything. Since then weve moved house and finances have improved a lot. Id not exactly forgotten out it but I'd given up on it

I've just moved a chest of drawers. The back was slightly lose and something slipped out...

Envelope marked "builders cash, £260"

Can't believe it. I must have pulled the drawers out on every chest of drawers in teh house half a dozen times hunting for that envelope.

I'm actually quite excited - only trouble is I'lll have to take it to post office or bank to change as they are all old £20 notes.

Now what shall I spend it on? I thought I'd give £100 to local food bank and keep the rest

What a kind thing to do, enjoy spending the rest of it though

Did you post about this on MN at the time? Your story sounds so familiar. Well done on the find!

HunkyPunk · 18/06/2020 12:29

How lovely! I was also going to ask if you posted about it at the time, as it sounded so familiar!

Sparklfairy · 18/06/2020 12:35

Oh how lovely Smile back when I was a cleaner we were brought in to deep clean s very cluttered house. Under the fridge we found an iPhone. The client was delighted. He said it had been missing since they moved in years ago and they assumed it had got lost in the move.

We also found an engagement ring. Again missing for years and it wasn't exactly hidden away, they'd just mislaid it and never come across it again.

Cash is always better though Grin

Can you come to my house and find my missing passport please? I know I can't use it right now but I know as soon as I replace it it'll turn up Wink

MuminMama · 18/06/2020 12:45

That's so sweet to think of giving some of it away.

MillicentMartha · 18/06/2020 12:58

How old are the twenties, OP? The Adam Smith paper ones are still in circulation.

MillicentMartha · 18/06/2020 13:02

Or were they Edward Elgar ones?

I may have posted at the time I really cant remember.. quite possibly I was not pleased !!

Local food bank now £100 up. I could have gone and bought the food but this way they can get exactly what they need.

Its certainly cheered up a very difficult week Smile

That's so brilliant! Amazing that you'd actually moved house, and it hadn't slipped out then!

TalbotAMan · 18/06/2020 13:31

When I was young I was cleaning the family car and found a cheque my uncle had given my father under the carpet. Knowing my father, he would have parked it on the dashboard and it must have slipped off under the windscreen and gone right down.

It was quite a big cheque by the standards of the time but I don't remember getting a reward for finding it . . .

Thisismytimetoshine · 18/06/2020 13:32

Lovely of you to share the spoils, op 😊

totallyyesno · 18/06/2020 13:37

Good news OP! I also lost an envelope with about £80 in it a few years ago - it was donations to a charity which I had been given by various people so I had to make it up myself. Really annoying that nobody ever handed it in though (the name and address of the charity was on the front).

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 18/06/2020 13:47

I found a cheque recently in an old purse, written on my mother's account who died 15 years ago - no idea what for or why I didn't bank it. Will never know now.

SoreBoob · 18/06/2020 13:48

Woohoo, I love a good news story :)

VeganCow · 18/06/2020 13:50

nice outcome. The old £20s are still in circulation btw with no end date just yet.
