I don't believe it... I've just found an envelope of cash...

About 3 years ago I took some cash to pay some builders and put it in an envelope. It went missing and I hunted high and low tearing the house apart. Eventyally I gave up and took more to pay builders. It left me short for a couple of months but managed to make it up by barely spending anything. Since then weve moved house and finances have improved a lot. Id not exactly forgotten out it but I'd given up on it

I've just moved a chest of drawers. The back was slightly lose and something slipped out...

Envelope marked "builders cash, £260"

Can't believe it. I must have pulled the drawers out on every chest of drawers in teh house half a dozen times hunting for that envelope.

I'm actually quite excited - only trouble is I'lll have to take it to post office or bank to change as they are all old £20 notes.

Now what shall I spend it on? I thought I'd give £100 to local food bank and keep the rest

That was a lovely read.
Great to find what you thought was long lost and had got over the loss.

Even better that you shared it with the food banks, hoping good karma will be knocking at your door for your kindness and generosity. 👏🤗

Good for you, they always say that you find lost things when you stop looking!
When MIL was staying with us when we lived overseas a set of keys went missing, if they were lost we would be charged about £500. We looked everywhere, MIL hadn't seen them, the children's toy boxes and hidey-holes produced nothing and we reconciled to having a tight Christmas. As we were packing to come back to UK at Christmas I asked MIL if she had all her stuff together and she asked me to pull a chest of drawers out to check behind the keys were there! She said she didn't like leaving keys lying around and had brought them upstairs for safety and forgotten about them!!!

I definitely remember the thread. Great that you’ve found it!

Parkandride · 18/06/2020 14:08

I'm sure I remember a similar thread, though it might have been one where there was a cleaner and a teen in the house and the OP didn't want to accuse anyone?

Fantastic that you've found it, what a kind gesture to share some Flowers

Gosh - I remember your post!
It would drive me mad though, I HATE losing things.

On a similar note to you - I do a lot of tutoring to pay my daughters rent while at university. CRASH due to coronavirus but i have kept a little on and my daughter's uni did not charge us rent for the last term anyhow. So, I have donated my tutoring earnings to our local foodback during these difficult times - much to the disgust of my teenagers! My daughter even said WTF - Thought I'd raised kind kids!

SerenityNowwwww · 18/06/2020 14:18

Did you have a thread on here about the missing envelope back then?

Napqueen1234 · 18/06/2020 14:39

What a lovely positive thing to do. Congrats OP what karma!

spiderlight · 18/06/2020 14:45

What a lovely thing to do! Get yourself a little treat as well, mind!

PollyPelargonium52 · 18/06/2020 14:47

It reminds me of finding a missing bra two years after it disappeared. It was found in the inside corner of a quilt cover.

kitschplease · 18/06/2020 14:48

Love this!

OptimisticSix · 18/06/2020 14:51

That brilliant. Something similar happened to me years ago, and I was surviving on cheap white bread and margerine when I found the money. It was a brilliant feeling. Got to say I did not donate any, so well done you!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/06/2020 14:51

Oh how wonderful! glad you found it and so nice of you to share it as well, how kind!

I have a similar story but not with an envelope of cash - my mother went through a jewellery-making stage, and made me a silver necklace of my initial. I then lost it, in the bedroom of the house in which I was lodging - I went through everything, even almost had the carpet up in case it had gone under there somehow - couldn't find it.
Moved house.
3 years later, moved house again.
1.5 years later, forced to move house again because of relationship break up.
Then in my last house, I was moved to take up some knitting that I'd started years before and hadn't ever finished (story of my life Hmm) and lo and behold, my name letter fell out of one of the balls of wool! I must have sat with my mouth open for about 5 minutes just staring at it! Totally amazing that it had moved house with me 3 times!

Monstermuncher · 18/06/2020 14:54

Oh I do like a good news story. As other have said, how kind of you to make a donation OP, hope you treat yourself with the rest

Samtsirch · 18/06/2020 14:57

That’s brilliant OP
This thread has really cheered me up 😊

StampMc · 18/06/2020 15:35

That’s brilliant. I lost my phone and tore the house apart looking for it and ended up giving up and buying a new one. I found it in a coat pocket of my rarely worn “smart coat” about 10 years later and managed to charge it with the charger for my work on-call brick phone. It had all the messages from my BFF from before she died including the last message she ever sent.

Juiceey · 18/06/2020 15:55

This thread has really cheered me up on a crappy day, I LOVE that you donated some. May good karma come your way :)

foxychox · 18/06/2020 16:07

Some great good news stories on here today, just what I needed! Enjoy the cash OP and a lovely idea to donate to the foodbank!

cottonwoolbrain · 18/06/2020 16:12

@OptimisticSix but you needed the money for food. No one would expect you to donate it under those circumstances. I'm in the very fortunate position of not needing it just now. I'm so glad you found some cash when you needed it Smile

What a lovely surprise.

I dropped an earring on the door of my bedroom a few years ago. It just disappeared. Gutted because I inherited them from my nana.

Emptied the chest of drawers I was standing next to, literally ‘combed’ the carpet in the whole room in case it rolled away, pulled the carpets up, couldn’t find it. Tried a few times, it just wasn’t there.

A couple of years later I was reorganizing the drawers. I scooped everything out of the top drawer and there was my earring.

Was so chuffed, but I’m too scared to wear them now in case I lose one again.

FromMarch2020 · 18/06/2020 19:37

What a lovely story. Even more so for donating some to the local food bank.

Enjoy spending the rest

Best wishes
