What can I make with 5 ripe bananas apart from banana bread?

They're sitting there in the fruit bowl looking at me. I have a nice banana bread recipe but fancy trying something different. Any suggestions?

Banana pancakes?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 18/06/2020 10:13

icecream...iirc you need an icecream maker, a pot of custard, some cream and some honey....just flop it all in and let it go

add nuts and chocolate chips.

there's bound to be actual recipes if you google

Compost? Bananas are yuck HmmConfused

confusedofengland · 18/06/2020 10:19

Banana flapjacks 😋 I just use my normal flapjack recipe but with less sugar & butter.

Also banana milkshakes with just milk & bananas.

Banana Snow.

Whip double cream.
Whip egg whites.
Mash bananas.
Mix bananas and cream.
Carefully fold whites and bananas together.
Done.

I slice them in half lengthwise and fry them together with some walnuts in the pan using butter and a bit of syrup. Tastes amazing with vanilla ice cream or even Nutella.

Banoffee pie

I'd just get rid and buy fewer next time.

Tarte tatin but with bananas

SoupDragon · 18/06/2020 10:32

I make banana bread that is actually bread, not cake. It makes fabulous toast.

Lottapianos · 18/06/2020 11:10

Maiden, why on earth would I throw 5 perfectly edible bananas in the bin? Hmm

MuseumofYou, that looks amazing, and I have all of the ingredients! You star Grin thanks to everyone who made helpful suggestions

Send me a piece!! It's fantastic

Banana and plain choc chip muffins.

Baked bananas (wrap in foil), sliced in half lengthways with small cubes of chocolate melted between each half (like the butter in a jacket potato) with vanilla or coffee ice cream.

Banana splits if they aren't too over-ripe. If you have kids they will be so excited!

TheEmpressMatilda · 18/06/2020 11:20

There’s a great cookie recipe that uses very ripe or even brown bananas in place of butter. It’s saved on my laptop (currently using phone) so I’ll post it later?

Lottapianos · 18/06/2020 11:34

Museum, think you could increase the banana content and reduce the sugar?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 18/06/2020 11:53

Increasing the banana content will make the mix wetter so you'd need to adjust something else to balance that I think.

SoupDragon · 18/06/2020 11:54

(Speaking from banana baking experience of other recipes, not that specific one!)

Lottapianos · 18/06/2020 12:14

Thanks Soup. Maybe reduce sugar but increase flour/ cocoa mix?

Late to this but I made Nigellas chocolate banana muffins and they were great

BigGee · 18/06/2020 12:25

I make a honey and banana pudding that has sliced bananas and honey forming a yummy sticky layer on the bottom and a banana sponge above it. It's one of our fav puds, and despite the fact that it came from an old WW cookbook, it tastes sublime, especially with yogurt. Happy to share the recipe if anyone wants it.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 18/06/2020 12:51

I freeze chunks of banana (flat freeze) and then whizz in food processor to make banana ice cream. Google Dalgona coffee recipe and you can mix that in with frozen banana puree to make coffee banana icecream 😋
