Stuck in a rut and looking for inspiration that won’t raise complaints from the DC.

Chorizo and butter bean stew, me and DH have it with crusty bread, kids (8, 5, 3) like it lightly blitzed over any pasta. Basically it's chopped chorizo, an onion, a red pepper, two tins of butter beans, two tins of tomatoes, a bit of salt, pepper and smoked paprika. Drizzle of balsamic when serving. It's delicious. Also any kind of fajita/taco type dinner goes down well if not too spicy.

No such thing here. Probably a roast as they can plate it up to suit themselves. My children are like chalk and cheese.

Smallsteps88 · 09/06/2020 17:50

Thank you everyone. This is a great list to work through.

Chicken or turkey breast topped with half a handful of spinach leaves and a slice of mozzarella, wrapped in prosciutto and baked in oven for 30 minutes. Served with a ton of broccoli and green beans.

Has the advantage it takes less than 5 minutes to make and you can prep the veg whilst the meat is in the oven.

hisnameisfreckles · 09/06/2020 18:02

My son says pepperoni pasta. Just pasta with fried pepperoni (including the oil from it when you fry it without adding oil) red pesto and cheese. Really simple but he loves it especially if its egg pasta

FizzyPink · 09/06/2020 18:02

All these creamy pastas sound amazing! Does anyone have a way of making them dairy free?

handmademitlove · 09/06/2020 18:05

brie and bacon risotto - we add peppers / other veg..

SorryImNotCreative · 09/06/2020 18:06

@turnedouttoes I think a lot of the creamy pastas could work with a dairy free alternative to cream cheese/Philadelphia, would be worth a try at least!

In the Cajun chicken pasta recipe I linked too, the Philadelphia is the only dairy included.

AriettyHomily · 09/06/2020 18:08

Things everyone eats without variation and they actually ask for:

Stifado and lemon potatoes
Chicken or beef fajitas
Tacos
Thai chicken curry
Chicken tikka, dry not masala
Butter chicken

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/06/2020 18:13

Dh loves a macaroni/cauliflower cheese combo, lots of very cheesy sauce, breadcrumbs and extra cheese on top, browned under the grill so there are lots of crispy cheesy bits.

MrsPinkCock · 09/06/2020 18:15

Meatballs slow cooked in marinara sauce then tossed over pasta, mozzarella on top and baked in the oven. Served with fresh basil and corn 😋

Or Greek chicken gyros - chicken thighs marinaded and grilled are amazing, served with flatbread, dips, salad and rosemary roast potatoes.

AdaColeman · 09/06/2020 18:21

Roast dinner is always popular, pork is a favourite.

Popular weekday meals are
Chicken & mushroom risotto
Pasta carbonara or pasta primavera
Chicken pie
Beef casserole with dauphinois potatoes

TimeWastingButFun · 09/06/2020 18:25

The only things that everyone will eat are steak and jacket potato, macaroni cheese, roast dinner (gammon, beef or chicken - end up having it two or three times a week though!) but most meals are a variation, eg sometimes we'll have a dhal or something with roast chicken rather than the roast potatoes and mash that the kids always want. Macaroni cheese is so boring on it's own, we often will have that with gammon or with something else, even though the youngest will happily have nothing else! And although they will eat casseroles and love boeuf bourgignon for example, they don't like onions, so I usually take the beef and carrots out of the sauce after it's cooked and stick-blend the onions into it Wink
